Dr. Amina Silva, PhD, RN, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at Brock University. Her program of research focuses on advancing healthcare education and complex patient care through innovation, with particular emphasis on simulation-based learning, immersive technologies, and artificial intelligence in nursing education. She also leads research in organ donation and transplantation, end-of-life care, and cancer survivorship. Dr. Silva’s work is grounded in improving systems of care through practical, scalable solutions that strengthen workforce preparedness, patient outcomes, and equitable access to support. In addition to her research, Dr. Silva leads several internal and external committees on AI integration in healthcare, clinical placement, simulation and Innovation, supporting the integration of emerging technologies into nursing education. Her work has been recognized through competitive funding, national collaborations, and invitations to present across Canada and internationally.
Dr. Amina Silva’s research interests center on healthcare innovation, nursing education, and improving care for individuals with complex health needs. Her work focuses on simulation-based learning, extended reality (XR), virtual reality, and artificial intelligence applications in health professions education. She also has expertise in organ donation and transplantation, including donation after medical assistance in dying (MAiD), critical care systems, and end-of-life pathways. Additional areas of interest include cancer survivorship, supportive care, sexual health after cancer, patient education, and the development of scalable digital tools to improve access to information and psychosocial support. Across all areas, her research emphasizes implementation, equity, workforce readiness, and translating evidence into practice and policy.
