December 7, 2023 – Exploring Justice Through Various Perspectives: How Can Women’s and Gender Studies Create a Less Violent World for All?

The Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies welcomes students to Social Sciences Day 2023! Students will explore how Women’s and Gender Studies can create a less violent world for all with a lecture from Associate Professor Dr. Hijin Park. Dr. Park’s lecture will explore the questions: How does society define safety and violence in ways that ignore marginalized people? What would happen if we prioritized the needs of Indigenous women, girls and two-spirited people? What if we abolished prisons and defunded the police? Should we eliminate sex and gender from identity documents?

This presentation will include an introduction to student life by Kaleigh Evans, and an exploration of careers in Women’s and Gender Studies by Caitlin Szczepanowski.

Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 10:35am to 12:10pm
Academic South Room 217 at Brock University

The Women’s and Gender Studies session will also feature an introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies and an examination of possible career outcomes for Women’s and Gender Studies students. This session is part of a larger event and is designed to give high school students the chance to experience a typical university lecture/class for programs in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Sessions are assigned and only available to classes and schools registered for the event. For more information on Social Sciences Day, contact the Faculty of Social Sciences.
