The Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies is excited to offer a variety of degree and certificate opportunities to students.

Year 1

In 20 credit Honours degree programs a maximum of eight credits may be numbered 1(alpha)00 to 1(alpha)99; at least three credits must be numbered 2(alpha)90 or above; at least three credits must be numbered 3(alpha)90 or above; and the remaining credits must be numbered 2(alpha)00 or above.

Students intending to complete the Honours Program must submit an Application to Year Four Studies (Honours). Students should refer to the Registrar’s Office and Academic Advisor for further information and deadlines.

Satisfactory completion of the first three years of the Honours program entitles a student to apply for a Pass degree.

Students may complete a Combined Major Program Women’s and Gender Studies and a second discipline. Not all programs provide a Combined Major option.

For requirements, students should refer to the current WGST Undergraduate Calendar and the Department or Centre of the second discipline.

Students in other disciplines can obtain a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies within their degree program by completing the following courses with a minimum overall average of 60%:

  • Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies (1F90)
  • 3 WGST credits

The Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies offers a Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies. The Certificate provides an overview for interested persons who already have a degree in a different field or who do not wish to proceed to a degree. It is of special interest to people working in a related field. The admission requirements for the Certificate are the same as for the degree program. Prospective students should consult with the Director before beginning the certificate program.

The certificate is awarded upon completion of the following courses with a minimum overall average of 60%:

The micro-certificate in Gender Justice and the Art of Activism will be awarded upon successful completion of the following courses with an overall average of 60%:

  • Classic and Contemporary Discourses in Women’s and Gender Studies (2P00)
  • Art of Activism: Sexuality to Racial Justice (2Q96)
