Frequently Asked Questions

Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page to find answers to popular questions. Still can’t find what you’re looking for? Email isa@brocku.ca

Stay up to date on important notices and temporary policy changes from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that may affect you.

Refugees & Asylum

Until you are a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, a study permit is required for any program that is over 6 months long. Asylum seekers, Convention refugees and protected persons are not exempt.

While the immigration advising team at Brock International cannot advise on refugee or protected person status or claims, we are happy to advise on study permit applications. There is no fee to apply for a study permit if you are a protected person or Convention Refugee. A Provincial Attestation Letter is not required under IRPR 215 (1).

As a Convention Refugee or protected person, you may be eligible for domestic tuition fee rates, financial assistance through OSAP, and health care through OHIP.
