Congratulations to Laur Pilon for earning national spotlight!
We are happy to announce that our PhD student Laur Pilon’s painting The figure’s rebirth unfolds in a leaky silence was selected earlier this year by the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa to be part of its collection. Laur is leading the way in research-creation, a practice-based approach to research that combines creative and academic exploration generating new knowledge and innovative ideas.

Another Proud Moment for HUMA!
Congratulations to HUMA students Alia Wazzan, Maya Karanouh and Long Vu who have been recognized for their hard work!
Alia Wazzan has been awarded The 2024–2025 Robert G. Rawle Graduate Bursary and The 2024–2025 Marilyn Rose Graduate Award for Excellence in Humanities. Alia is in preparation for her Dissertation on “Netflix’s Feminist Euphoria on its MENA Platform: Colonial Feminism in the Era of a Neoliberal Platform Economy?” in the upcoming year.
Maya Karanouh is a fourth year student and has received the General Brock Soiree Graduate Award. Maya’s Dissertation is on “Enhancing Growth of Canadian Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) through the Disruptive Application of Artificial Intelligence.”
Long Vu is the recipient of the Dr. Marilyn J. Rose Graduate Studies Fund. Long is a second year student with HUMA who’s Dissertation is on “The Cultural Politics of Giftedness.” -

On November 15, Grace Channer successfully defended her thesis entitled, “TEMPLE: Resistance Embodied as a Diaspora Aesthetic Strategy.”

HUMA PhD Candidate Receives CCA Congress Merit Award
At the 2024 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, held in Montreal in June the President of the Canadian Communication Association, Dr. Ghislain Thibault, presented HUMA PhD Candidate, Maya Karanouh with a Congress Merit Award for her paper: “Decoding the Author in the Age of Generative AI: Copyright, Ethics, and Litigation.”
