Dr. Silva e Silva’s is a Registered Nurse and Assistant Professor with clinical expertise in community health, critical care, and more deeply in organ donation and transplantation. Her current research program is focused on improving the quality of organ donation programs and structures worldwide. Research projects and interests include understanding and improving work-life experience of organ donation coordinator nurses, quality improvement of donation processes, organ donation management, organ donation family experiences and public awareness, equity and inclusion in donation and transplantation, interventional studies, and social network analysis studies. Dr. Silva e Silva was a Kidney Research Scientist Core Education Program (KRESCENT) fellow, is the leader of theme 1 “Improve a Culture of Donation” of the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program (CDTRP), and leads the CDTRP Allied Research in Donation and Transplantation Working Group.

I am currently accepting MNSc students with an interest in developing expertise in the following areas of research:
– Organ Donation and transplantation research (organ donation following Medical Assistance in Dying, organ donation processes and management, burnout and work-life of donation and transplant coordinators, family experiences and public awareness, equity and inclusion)
– Quality improvement in health services
– Health Programs evaluation
– Social network analysis
– International/national collaboration studies
Current and future research projects with potential volunteer opportunities:
– The BRIC study (Phase 3)
– Scoping or Systematic review of educational methods for organ donation coordinators
– Social Network Analysis of the communication during organ donation processes in Canadian Organ Donation Organizations
Note that in the volunteer position, students may be considered for the publication authorship list depending on the collaboration level as defined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. If projects get funded, then voluntary position turns into RA-paid research.
