Survey for Chairs and Directors – Pedagogical Supports Working Group

The Brock University Faculty Association (BUFA) and the University are collaborating as part of a working group “to engage in good faith discussions regarding standards and normal expectations for the provision of pedagogical supports for academic units, including, but not limited to, teaching assistants, marker/graders, coordinators, demonstrators, and/or facilitators.” The working group includes equal representation from BUFA and the University.

In its discussions, the Committee will consider factors such as class size, course complexity, student needs, disciplinary norms, and budgetary implications as they relate to standards and expectations for the provision of pedagogical supports for academic units.

The Committee will proceed by identifying current inequities and explore mutually agreeable solutions that address the academic needs of students and workload/pedagogical considerations of faculty members, while operating within budgetary means.

Acknowledging that the Committee is not in a position to modify existing Collective Agreement language, the Committee will produce recommendations that may be considered by the University and/or in the next round of collective bargaining.

As part of its work, the committee is consulting and seeking feedback from Department Chairs and Centre Directors regarding the standards that currently exist in units for the allocation of pedagogical supports, and the ways in which these have changed over time.

Please skip any questions that are not relevant to your unit.
