Professors Ling Sun and JF Lamarche prepare students for Bank of Canada’s Governor’s Challenge

Brock Economics Professors Dr. Ling Sun and Dr. JF Lamarche are preparing a team of five students to compete in the Bank of Canada’s Governor’s Challenge in early November.

The team includes Chizuorom Mgbeokwere, Garrett Carroll, Daniel Lucas, Mallory Law and Almad Al Zahrawi.

The Governor’s Challenge is a national university competition designed to give undergraduate students hands-on experience with monetary policy. Teams take on the role of advisors to the Bank of Canada’s Governing Council, analyzing and forecasting economic developments before recommending whether the Bank should raise, lower or maintain its policy interest rate.

As they prepare for their presentation, the students are developing their skills in economic analysis, forecasting and policy communication.

Teams from universities across Canada present their analysis to a panel of Bank of Canada judges and are evaluated on the quality of their research, presentation and teamwork.
