Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility and Guarantees

To live in Residence, you must be a full-time student in a degree program at Brock or studying in our IELP program. Students in any year of study are welcome.

September 2025 Residence guarantee: Brock is pleased to guarantee a space in Residence to full-time undergraduate students in any year of study who apply and pay the application fee by June 2, 2025. The guarantee does not apply to Brock Suites which continues to be first come, first served. The residence application for September 2025 to April 2026 is open.

YES!  As soon as your application and your housing application fee payment are received, you will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis.  New this year the housing application fee can be paid as part of the application process not by student account.

If you are interested in joining us in January visit this FAQ for more information.

You can apply for housing as soon as you have a full-time undergraduate or graduate offer from Brock. You do not need to accept the offer first.

In fact, we recommend that you apply for residence and pay your application fee as soon as possible.  If you change your mind, you still have time to cancel.

New this year, you will be prompted within the housing application to pay a fee of $500. This will not be paid by student account as in the past.

Students will have the opportunity to reserve starting in February of each year for the coming Spring/Summer term.  Visit the Spring/Summer page for more information about staying on campus during the Spring and Summer months.

Application Preferences and Assignment Process

Yes, this is possible but this starts with you and your friend’s Housing application.  If you have a friend coming to Brock and you would like to share with that person, you will be able to create a friendship group and invite your friends within the Housing Services Hub during the application process or after in the Hub.  For the best chance of having your friendship group confirmed, please ensure that your application is for the same academic term and the selections/preferences on your applications match (e.g., room style ranking, lifestyle preference, etc.).

Learn about room/building styles in order to rank all of your preferences.

First year and new residents must rank 7 preferences:

Visit the Fees and Payment page to view the residence and meal plan fees. These are paid by 3 instalments.

Academic Year 2025-26, you will be a able to make change to your housing application through the Housing Service Hub before June 2 .

Winter 2025 Only – If you have applied for Winter Term Only (January to April), any changes to your application need to be requested before November 15 by emailing housing@brocku.ca. All responses to your change requests will be sent to your Brock Outlook student email.

Visit these pages if you are cancelling or withdrawing before move-in day or after move-in day.

Your residence agreement outlines these in detail.

We are happy to work with you on this. The process starts with indicating this on your housing application indicating you will require accommodation.  You can visit our accessibility page to learn how to submit the appropriate documentation.

The deadline for new students to submit their documentation for a September 2025 start is June 15 2025.

Yes, you can apply at any time, even during the school year.  The January intake is subject to availability.  Applications will be reviewed beginning in November and based on availability room assignments will go out in December.

Only those with special circumstances can stay in residence over winter break. To learn more, visit our Winter Break Closure page.

Room Assignments

Our admissions process is based on marks. We look at admission averages when assigning students to Residence. The higher your admissions average, the better chance you have of getting the style of building and the type of room you prefer. More than 70% of the bedrooms in residence are single rooms. The rest are double rooms.

We give applicants the opportunity to indicate a preference for a particular style of room. We are unable to guarantee that you will be offered a place in your first preference of building or room style. First year and new residents must all rank seven room style choices in order of most preferred(1) to least preferred(7).

Room assignments for September start are sent out by the end of July. Room assignments for January start are sent out by the beginning of December.  Meeting your roommate (bathroom mate/unit mate) will be one of the things you do on move in day.  (We are unable to share names and personal contact information for other students due to privacy legislation.)

There are no changes to room assignments prior to move-in. Information about the room switch process and how to submit your request can be found here.

Fall Move-in weekend is scheduled for August 30 to September 2, 2025.

Winter Move-in is scheduled for Sunday, January 4, 2026 after 12pm(noon).

Learn how to prepare for move-in day and remember to check your Brock Outlook email for more information.

Waitlist Information

Your name will be put on the waitlist if we are unable to offer you a space in residence. We will email you to provide your position on the waitlist. You will be sent weekly updates on your waitlist number. You will move up the list as we receive cancellations.

Please note, students whose status is to be reviewed for discipline reasons may be placed on the waitlist or prohibited from re-admission to residence. The full application fee will be reversed if a student is prohibited from returning to residence for discipline reasons.

Vacancies occur when someone who has been offered a bed withdraws. Your position on the waitlist will also improve of students ahead of you cancel off the waitlist.

We cannot predict your chances of being offered a room. We do typically receive cancellations throughout the summer, but every year is different, and there is no way to guarantee how many students will cancel.

All room offers and waitlist updates will be sent to your Brock Office 365 student outlook email. Please check your email regularly for room offers as they will have a deadline for response!

You may cancel your residence application to be taken off the waitlist at any time. Please visit our cancellation page for details and to complete the online cancellation request form.

If you do not like the room you have been offered, you can decline the offer and remain in the same position on the waitlist.
Note: If you decline a room offer from the waitlist, and later cancel your residence application, you will lose your application fee as detailed on our cancellation page.

Please keep in mind that double rooms are the most common type of room to become available. If you are open to all/any room styles, you will increase your chances of getting into residence. If you only want to accept certain types of rooms, please let us know in advance by emailing housing@brocku.ca. You can review the different types of rooms here.

Your residence application fee is fully refundable if we are not able to offer you a room or if you cancel before we offer you a room. If you cancel after we offer you a room, whether you accept the room or not, you will lose your application fee (see here for details).

You can stay on the waitlist as long as you want. Some students will set a deadline of how long they’re comfortable waiting for a room. Other students will remain on the waitlist into the start of the school year to see what rooms become available after move-in.
