By participating in activities related to all of these domains, we believe you will have a richer, more meaningful Brock experience and will be even better positioned to pursue a career or further education when you graduate.
But don’t just take our word for it, read what other Brock students had to say!

I was inspired to complete the CWC because I wanted to be intentional about my growth beyond the classroom. As a Biomedical Sciences student, much of my academic journey is structured, but the CWC pushed me to explore leadership, service, and personal development in a more holistic way. My roles as a Brock International Ambassador, volunteer in clinical settings, and president of a student club showed me how impactful experiential learning can be. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people, supporting students through transitions, and creating inclusive environments, and the CWC gave me a framework to develop those passions further. It also encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone whether that meant leading new initiatives, organizing events, or taking on responsibilities that challenged my confidence. Ultimately, I was motivated by the opportunity to grow into a well-rounded leader while making a meaningful contribution to the Brock community.

One of the most meaningful activities that helped me complete the CWC was volunteering with the Brock University Students’ Union Volunteer Association. I contributed more than 150 volunteer hours supporting various campus and community initiatives. Some of the events I participated in included Pow Wow, Moving Day for new students, Brock Cares community clean-up in downtown St. Catharines, Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign and Brock Open House.
Through these experiences, I was able to strengthen my commitment to community involvement and give back to the Brock and Niagara community. Volunteering also allowed me to meet many new people and build meaningful connections with other students who shared the same passion for contributing to campus life.
Over time, I became a senior volunteer leader, where I helped guide and support new volunteers. I also introduced incoming students to these opportunities, encouraging them to get involved and experience the same sense of community and belonging that I found through volunteering.
For students just starting the CWC, my advice is to be curious and open to new experiences. Try different activities, connect with others, and focus on learning rather than perfection. The more you engage with the community, the more meaningful your university experience will become.
If you’re just starting the CWC, I recommend working towards completing the Brock Spirit path first because you’ll be able to complete a lot of the items during Welcome Week and attending sports events. I always loved getting to show my spirit at Women’s Volleyball games, or by participating in intramurals with friends. Those moments solidified my experience at Brock as something where I not only received my degree in Concurrent Education, but flourished socially and collaboratively within the community.
Completing the CWC is an excellent initiative to showcase your involvement during post-secondary and is a great way to build new connections. Now moving into my career in teaching, I’m able to add this certificate to my portfolio and highlight my contributions to the community!
As someone who likes to be involved and experience different things, the CWC allowed me to have the opportunity to be able to know what events and experiences are available to me. Other than the fact that I wanted to see the 100% completion, I was inspired to complete the CWC because it allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and try and gain new experiences.
My involvement in the CWC came mainly from staying active across campus. I got involved with different Brock University clubs and attended events that helped me meet new people, try new things, and build useful skills. I also took part in volunteering opportunities, which allowed me to give back to the community while improving my communication and teamwork. In addition, I attended workshops through Learning Services that supported my academic growth and helped me apply what I learned in practical ways. Some of my favourite experiences came from club-led activities around the Niagara region, which pushed me outside my comfort zone. Overall, these opportunities made it easy to stay engaged and played a big role in helping me complete the CWC.
I was inspired to complete the CWC because of my goal of pursuing a career in healthcare and my desire to develop skills beyond the classroom. I know that success in healthcare requires strong interpersonal and leadership skills, not just academic knowledge, so I wanted to seek out experiences that would help me build those abilities in real-world settings. The CWC gave me opportunities to work with different communities, collaborate with others, and take on responsibilities that challenged me to grow. I was especially motivated to improve my communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, since these are essential for working effectively with patients and healthcare teams. I also wanted to step outside my comfort zone and gain experiences that would better prepare me for the demands of a healthcare career. Overall, completing the CWC helped me become more well-rounded and build skills I will carry into my future profession.
