How It Works
Learning Skills Specialist, Access and Inclusion visits schools to share resources and pair students with university mentors.
Mentors offer mentees information and resources to support their transition to post-secondary education.
Future Brock students attend equity pre-start programs (LEAP) and Welcome Week events to connect with the Black community.
Mentors supports mentees to participate in events guided by the Campus-Wide Co-Curriculum (CWC) to enhance the Brock experience.
Mentees are awarded a certificate of completion and invited to apply to Future Black Leaders as a mentor.
Competency Initiatives
Financial Literacy
Youth financial literacy is a core life skill ensuring youth have the essential knowledge to make informed decisions about money and therefore their economic security.
In Partnership with Future Black Female and RBC, the Black Student Success Centre (BSSC) will be administering a Financial Literacy program to commence Fall 2024. The program aims to introduce youth and young adults to the fundamental concepts of financial literacy. Participants will learn how to manage their finances, including earning an income, budgeting, saving, investing, debt and other key aspects. Students will be trained and certified to become peer facilitators and will lead the financial literacy program within the Niagara region, thus creating a youth-led financial literacy program.
