The BESE SAKA symbol

The BESE SAKA “sack of cola nuts” is a symbol of affluence, power, abundance, and unity. The cola-nut was said to play a large role in the economic success of Ghana and that is why it is primarily tied to abundance and affluence.

Our icon directly correlates to our five core values in Engagement, Allyship, Mentorship, Community & Cultural Pride, and Growth. As the BSSC prides itself in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that embraces diversity and celebrates all Black students’ unique lived experiences and perspectives, so does the BESE SAKA symbolize unity & togetherness.

The Centre’s nurturing community network brings a wealth of empowering knowledge and insight that support Black students to achieve academic and leadership excellence while also emphasizing equitable inclusion.

The BESE SAKA also directly symbolizes the principle of Black Flourishing found in the Scarborough Charter signed by Brock.
