Laureen and Dan
Laureen + Dan: On my first day back to residence after winter break, I noticed a light on in the Quarry View room above mine. I knew instantly that the new guy had moved in. Without unpacking I marched right on in to introduce myself. We instantly connected and spent the rest of the evening watching a snow storm and talking. We’ve been inseparable since! This past January 5th we celebrated 18 years together!
Greg and Maria
Greg + Maria: We both moved to the Niagara Region from different locations in Ontario to go to Brock. We met frosh week of our second year in Village Residence. I lived in unit 107 and Maria lived in unit 101. One night in that first week we sat outside on the picnic table all night getting to know each other. That was in September 1996. 26 years later we are happily married with three teenage girls, our oldest is now in her first year at Brock! We have never left the Niagara Region. We're still rocking the Brock sweaters over 20 years later!
Mark and Joy
Mark + Joy: We were in adjoining houses in residence. I was in Keefer house and I used to see her from my balcony. It all started there. We got married the day after our graduation in 1983. Graduation was June 3 and we drove to Stratford Ontario and got married on June 4. So 38 years and counting! We love summer nights sitting in our deck with ice cream or a glass of wine. We love having our grandchildren over and playing hide and seek. Simple walks in the country. Finding new places to walk among trilliums in the spring. In the end after nearly 40 years together we are thankful for the simple act of being with each other. Hard to describe short of a book but we are so incredibly happy.
Hilary and Jack
Hilary + Jack: A late Friday night right before exam season in a crowded plaza. Jack came over and asked if he could sit at my table, it was love at first site. We hit it off right off the bat and have never looked back. We are now living together working full-time and I just found out we will be welcoming a little one into this world. It is a baby boy and we are so excited!!
Trevor and Natalie
Trevor + Natalie: 30 years ago this Valentine's Day my wife and I first met in the lounge about Issacs. We had a group of mutual friends that used to hang out there between classes. She came in with her friend, who I knew, and I called out to our mutual friend, "Hello, Ensign Roe". We used to call each other by characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation. My future wife was a big fan of the show and this made her ears perk up. Eventually we ended up in a conversation in which we argued about Chief O'Brien's proper rank. This argument clearly cemented what our future relationship would be like, as it was very unusual for her to be 'brave' enough to speak up to a stranger, and it was unusual for me to be wrong about trivial facts. We don't celebrate Valentine's in the typical manner, as our second child, and eldest daughter, has her birthday on Valentine's Day, so we make the day hers. I tend to try and surprise my wife with Valentine's at some random time of the year. (Photo: Our First Halloween Together)
Troy and Laura
Troy + Laura: We were actually put across the hall together in Lowenberger residence and we actually started talking because we both were at the library so often. Now I am back in my hometown of North Bay attending teacher's college and Laura is back in her hometown working on her applications for Occupational Therapy School. (Photo: This was first year in Lowenberger Residence doing laundry together!)
Megan and Pete
Megan + Pete: After Pete graduated, he got a job as campus security at Brock. During my 2nd year, I got an on-campus job at the Welcome Desk and Parking Services. During my time at the welcome desk, I got to know a lot of the security and other University staff—including Pete. We hit it off almost instantly, cracking jokes and chatting on our shifts. After a few weeks, I got a Facebook message asking me on a date. We spent the rest of my undergrad exploring Niagara—hitting wineries, heading to the Falls and lots of nights at Isaac’s. After graduation, Pete and I have since bought a house, adopted a dog and gotten married. We were married amidst the pandemic in 2020 in Niagara. (Our wedding hashtag was #LockedSinceBrock)
Natalie and Kevin
Natalie + Kevin: We were students at Brock at the same time, but we didn't meet until we started working together in Marketing & Communications in 2018. We sat beside each other for a year and became friends before we started dating. We began dating in secret because we were nervous what our colleagues would think, but it didn't last too long until everyone caught on. We got married on October 16, 2021.
Kalen and Racquel
Kalen + Racquel: Racquel and I met at a sorority get-together at Kahunaville during a St. Patrick's Day celebration event Omega Sigma Chi was hosting. Who intends to meet their soul mate at a bar?! Common interests led to us taking common courses together in our same BBA degree stream. We moved in together upon my graduation and married shortly thereafter on New Year's Eve 2015. Now we have 2 beautiful boys in a wonderful neighborhood. I am truly blessed to have met my soulmate at Brock.
Cristina and Spencer
Cristina + Spencer: We were neighbours in first year (305 and 306 in Village) and were taking a lot of the same CPCF classes. We didn't get close until the following year and it was nice that our relationship started after developing a solid foundation as friends. We've been able to share so much of our lives together and I'll always be thankful to Brock for being the place it all started.
Dorina and Nicholas
Dorina + Nicholas: We met during our grad program. We had neighbouring labs! We collaborated on a paper together that was published, as it grew from our respective love of science and friendship. We remarkably both got permanent positions in the biology department. I’m a senior lab demonstrator and Nick is the online course co-ordinatior! Now instead of our labs neighbouring…it’s our offices! Amazing huh???
Courtney and Ryan
Courtney + Ryan: We met because I was on the women's varsity hockey team and he was on the men's varsity hockey team. Clearly fate because he is originally from Alberta and came to Brock to play on the Badgers...and the rest was history. We got married in Ontario in 2015, and now live in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Ryan is a full time hockey coach and I am a high school librarian. We have three kids and a crazy busy lifestyle that revolves around hockey and kids activities.
Marina and James
Marina + James: We met in our last year of school at intramural basketball in the Ian Beddis gym. I was scorekeeping the men's games in the fall and caught his eye. The next semester we played on different teams in co-ed basketball and our teams played each other in the final (mine won). We spent most of that last semester attached at the hip wondering how we had never bumped in to each other before. After graduation we moved across the country to live and work on Vancouver Island in BC and are still living there today. Happy and healthy and loving life. 🙂 I am working towards my CPA and he is an entrepreneur that does personal training in his free time.
Caroline and VISA student
Caroline + VISA: I am a seventy year old widow who fell in love with Brock University. Being included [in the Visual Arts program] made a relationship I could not have planned. Being a part made me think I was 18-20.
Meghan and Max
Meghan + Max: Max and I met within 2 months of starting our first year at Brock. I was a little shy (and nervous) at first when we met, but, we ended up going on a walk in the Glenridge Quarry for our first date and all that nervousness went away - we talked and laughed for almost 3 hours! From that moment on, I have always felt my most self around Max. Tackling the next 4 years at Brock together and being able to share some incredible moments has helped strengthen our relationship to where we are now—and we are stronger than ever. Since graduating from the Public Health program, I’m working in the field of health & wellness as a Health & Performance Specialist. Max graduated from the Kinesiology program and is now completing thesis work as part of the Master of Science program at Brock!
Amanda and Matt
Amanda + Matt: We met in our fourth year in class, after I had decided to give the idea of a having a relationship a break (it’s funny how things always seem to come up when you’re not looking for them!!). It took us the entire year to talk to each other as we were both painfully shy, but we did and we haven’t been apart since! We have been married for almost four years and have two beautiful children together.
Cameron and Michael
Cameron + Michael: We were both working in Residence Services. Mike was a team leader (Head Resident), and I was newly hired on his team for the 2011-2012 school year. We connected over the following year, working closely together, but didn't officially start dating until the year was over - we didn't want a Conflict of Interest issue! We then continued working in Residence—just on separate teams—the next year. We moved off campus in 2014, and Mike stayed to complete his MEd at Brock while I finished by BEd year. Since then, we've worked in education settings in southern Ontario, and then spent 5 years in Calgary. We also enjoyed attending the Brock alumni events in the region. 🙂 We're now back in Ontario, completing PhD programs.
Victoria and Tyler
Victoria + Tyler: We met on our very first day at Brock on the 4th floor of Earp where we both stayed in residence. An instant connection with our shared program of Phys Ed, many early morning biology classes (11am was early back then), Decew cafeteria dinner dates and the rest is history. We got married in 2018 surrounded by many of our lifetime Brock friends.
Kristi and Matt
Kristi + Matt: Matt and I met through a mutual friend who also attended Brock. Matt and I are now newly engaged! We will be getting married in May of 2023. Some of our favourite activities include sports, sipping on wine and cooking together. I’m so thankful to have a partner in life that I can also call my best friend.
Frank and James
Frank + James: Jim and I met in French 190 and became instant best friends. We remained friends throughout our Brock experience. We graduated together in 1973 and Jim went on to complete his Bachelor of Education. I entered reality and decided to pursue a career in Customer Service at CN / VIA Rail. In 1975 Jim was a member of my wedding party as a groomsman. He and the Colli family became entwined with my Sommise family. Jim died from heart disease in 2013, but we remained as close as ever, referring to each other as brothers. I loved him and still love my best friend.
Lexi and Connor
Lexi + Connor: When I started at Brock, I had a high school boyfriend that also went to Brock. During first year we broke up and because the program was so small, everyone knew it! Connor had always been an achy friend but we now had the chance to see how compatible we were during study dates and group projects. We are currently working and living together in Australia in a winery and working in our chosen field. We hope to travel the world's wineries this year for various wine harvests and then settle back home in Canada together!
Jane and Riley
Jane + Riley: I had an apartment off campus with some friends for years, but a few had graduated and we found ourselves in need of a roommate. It was getting super close to the deadline to sign our lease again and we were desperate! Finally, a friend of a friend recommended Riley. We barely knew him but had no other choice. He turned out to be very smart, very funny and very cute. I was working on my Master’s and he was at the end of undergrad. We ended up hanging out a bunch once he moved in, and he asked me out the day after Valentine’s Day in 2018. I freaked out and said no, because isn’t it supposed to be a horrible idea to date your roommate? I changed my mind and said yes the next day, because life is short! Fast forward 4 years and we now live together again, but this time it’s our own place!
Stacey and Robert
Stacey + Robert: We met at Brock in our medical history class in 2001. We got married in July of 2005. We bought our first home in St. Catharines after we were married. In 2009 and 2011 we had our two beautiful daughters. Our daughters are on the Niagara Aquatics Swim Team which is offered at Brock. I have been teaching as a kindergarten teacher for the DSBN for the past 18 years. Robert has been working for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for 20 years as a Agricultural scientist. We were so blessed to meet at Brock University and we hope our girls will attend Brock in the future and enjoy it as much as we did!
