The program is delivered over one full year, starting in May.

For the 2027 program intake, the Primary/Junior (B10) and Junior/Intermediate (B20) programs will be offered at both the St. Catharines and Burlington campuses. As space is limited at each location, campus assignments will be determined by the Teacher Education program. Students can expect to be notified of their campus assignment by the end of February.

Please note: The B20 program with a French teachable will be offered exclusively at the Burlington campus.

B80 (Technological Teacher Education) is delivered in a hybrid format, combining online instruction with in-person practicums.

The minimum required average of 70% for the academic component is based on your best 10.0 full undergraduate credits only. Credits earned within a Masters or Doctoral program or degree will not be considered in the calculation of your average; however, we do grant some preference in the overall assessment score for those that have a completed credential at the time of application. Masters or Doctoral courses may be eligible for consideration towards the teachable subject areas.

Admissions cannot pre-assess or pre-approve courses

Generally, for a course credit to be eligible for consideration toward a particular teaching subject:

• It is best that they be presented from the teachable subject in question (i.e. if your teachable subject is mathematics, a course in political statistics or engineering will not normally be recognized).
• In most cases, only courses eligible to meet requirements for major programs can be counted in support of teachable subjects. There are exceptions. A course that is cross-listed can normally be used towards satisfying teaching subject requirements.

If you are having issues opening the supplemental documentation forms on your Brock portal (i.e. Teachable Subject Clarification Form), please ensure that your pop-up blocker is disabled on your browser. You will not be able to access the forms if your pop-up blocker is enabled.  If this does not work, please try changing your web browser, clearing your cookies/cache ensuring your pop-up blocker is disabled and try again. You may refer to this helpful link on how to disable pop-ups.

Should you still be experiencing difficulties, any issues related to your user portal must be solved by IT.  Common resolutions include clearing your cache, trying with a different browser, or disabling your pop-up blocker.  Otherwise, IT will need to assist you further.  You may reach out to our IT Help Desk. They also offer a list of FAQs which may help you troubleshoot the problem in the meantime.

Teacher Candidates will be asked to rank four publicly-funded school boards, in order of preference, from anywhere in Ontario. There is the possibility that you will not be placed in any of the school boards that you list. Several factors go into placements such as how placements are secured in a school board, school schedules, the availability of placements in specific divisions, etc. There are a limited number of placements available in each school board. Incoming teacher candidates should be prepared to accept that their placements could be a distance away from the campus they are assigned to (which may require some travel time).

The Department of Teacher Education tries not to place candidates in schools where they have personal contacts due to potential conflicts of interest.

Yes, you can. Upon acceptance into the Teacher Education Program candidates will be asked what school system they would like to practice teach in (Public or Catholic). That information is taken into consideration when candidates are placed in the Public or Catholic Cohort Groups. Once candidates are placed in Catholic Cohorts they complete their practica in the Catholic school system.

For universities in Canada, we utilize a grade translation scale to determine letter equivalencies. Generally, if your transcript indicates both numeric and letter grades, we will use the numeric grades provided. The scale used to calculate academic letter averages is as follows:

A+ 92   A 87   A-82   B+ 78   B 75    B- 72   C+ 68   C 65   C- 62   D+ 58   D 55   D- 52

Grade translations for universities outside of Canada are completed on an individual basis, and scales are generally unique to each country.

Brock’s Consecutive Teacher Education program is highly competitive. Due to the very strong applicant pool competing for few spaces, we can not extend offers to all candidates who meet minimum requirements. Please understand that even the most academically strong students do not necessarily receive offers. Enrolment in this professional program is limited.

If you did not receive an offer, it is likely due to one or more of the following reasons:

• You did not submit all documents listed as owing in your my.brocku.ca student portal by the deadline
• You did not meet the minimum academic requirements
• You did not complete the mandatory Casper assessment on one of the available test dates
• The documents you submitted were incomplete or didn’t follow submission guidelines
• Your overall score, comprised of your academic grades and your Casper assessment did not position you in the top tier of the candidate pool for an offer
