Join us for the second talk of the Work-in-Progress Series in the the PhD Program in Interdisciplinary Humanities, “Disrupting Racialized-Gendered Normative Identification in a Feminist Classroom,” presented by Alia Wazzan.
Alia Wazzan is a teaching assistant in the Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies and a PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Humanities program, specializing in postcolonial feminism. As a postcolonial feminist educator, Alia will demonstrate how implicit and normalized racialized-gendered discourses of Othering infiltrate classroom discussions and how teaching assistants/instructors can subvert them. The presentation contributes to the often fraught debates on achieving safe and inclusive classroom environments for students from diverse backgrounds.
Monday, October 28, 2024, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm
International Centre Building Room 111 at Brock University
This presentation will also be available virtually through Teams. For more information, see Interdisciplinary Humanities.
