(Source: The Brock News, Tuesday, November 20, 2012 | by )

The University’s wind ensemble and jazz band will perform a dizzying array of music when they perform next week.

Called Dizzy Fingers: an evening of musical fireworks from Shostakovich to Hindemith, the evening of music explores the ensemble’s repertoire and includes a debut performance by the Brockbusters, Brock’s jazz band. Both ensembles perform under the baton of conductor Zoltan Kalman.

Dizzy Fingers will feature masterworks of the past and present, including Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Paul Hindemith’s Wind Symphony in B-Flat, The Year of the Dragon by Philip Sparke and Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concertino, among many others.

The wind ensemble, part of the Department of Music, showcases the talents of 60 musicians from the Brock community, local high schools, and professional musicians from Niagara and Hamilton.

Brock’s jazz ensemble, the Brockbusters, is an extra-curricular club made up of 20 members, forming a standard stage band setting. The mission of the Jazz Band is to provide a venue to jazz lovers in the community.

The performance happens Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Centre for the Arts box office or the door.
