Brock event to explore the value of inclusivity in business

MEDIA RELEASE: 7 April 2021 – R0044

An online community event hosted by Brock University next week will go beyond buzzwords when it discusses inclusive decision-making in business.

The free public panel discussion will highlight experiences and evidence related to the value inclusivity brings to organizations across different industries.

Business Matters: Inclusivity in Decision-making takes place Tuesday, April 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The sixth in a series of panel talks organized by Brock’s Goodman School of Business, the event will be moderated by Todd Green, Associate Professor of Marketing at Goodman.

“Words like inclusivity and diversity have very different meanings to different people,” said Green, who emphasized the importance of having ongoing dialogue on the topic. “To understand and go beyond the buzzwords and to discuss how inclusivity benefits organizations is going to be a very fascinating conversation to be a part of.”

Panelists include:

  • Mark Dockstator, former President of First Nations University and current leader of the Indigenous Knowledge Initiative at Queen’s University
  • Leela MadhavaRau, Director, Human Rights and Equity at Brock University
  • Ivana Musich, VP, Managing Director and Digital Products at No Fixed Address Inc. and Founder of Nomad
  • Yvonne Nasri, Founder and CEO of Victory & Co.

Dockstator, who is also Chair of Goodman’s Advisory Council, said literature on the topic provides a lot of information, but the event’s format will give attendees a chance to hear practical applications and experiences from panelists.

“I think this is an issue a lot of people and organizations have a lot of questions about, and they want to learn more,” he said. “Is it as simple as we want to be more inclusive in our decision-making and practices, so we just do it? Or is it more nuanced than that?”
