Senior Social Sciences teaching in Ontario requires educators to navigate complex social issues, diverse learner needs, inquiry-based learning, and evolving professional responsibilities.
In this course, you will examine curriculum, assessment, research and inquiry, culturally responsive pedagogy, Indigenous perspectives, learner well-being, and inclusive classroom design within senior Social Sciences contexts. You will explore how professional judgment, ethical responsibilities, and responsive planning shape teaching and learning across senior Social Sciences and Humanities courses in Ontario.
Throughout the course, you will reflect on your own practice while designing learning experiences that support critical thinking, equity, student voice, and meaningful inquiry in Ontario classrooms.

What you’ll learn and do in Senior: Social Science – General ABQ:
- Analyze Social Sciences theories, perspectives, and inquiry methods to inform teaching and learning in the senior division.
- Evaluate Ontario curriculum, policies, and legislation to support responsive and ethical program planning in social sciences.
- Design learning experiences that integrate anthropology, psychology, and sociology using inquiry-based and interdisciplinary approaches.
- Apply culturally responsive and relevant pedagogical practices to support diverse learners and reflect multiple perspectives.
- Weave Indigenous peoples’ histories, cultures, perspectives, and knowledge systems in alignment with TRC and UNDRIP.
- Implement anti-oppression practices that address systemic barriers and support equitable and inclusive learning environments.
- Develop assessment and evaluation strategies aligned with Growing Success that support student achievement, well-being, and agency.
- Apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction (DI) to create accessible and inclusive learning opportunities.
- Integrate technology and critical media literacy to enhance teaching, learning, and ethical engagement with digital environments.
- Reflect on and refine professional practice through inquiry, collaboration, and engagement with educational research.

Your transcript(s) must show: The equivalent of 3.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate courses in Social Sciences or the equivalent of 2.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate courses if you already hold another senior qualification. People-centred courses from many disciplines are acceptable; Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Child Studies, Gender Studies, Geography, History, Politics etc.

- Laptop/PC: Windows 10 or higher or equivalent operating system with recommended 8 GB of RAM and at least 16 GB of free hard disk space and Wi-Fi capabilities.
- Access to reliable high-speed broadband internet access (Cable, DSL, LTE) with a minimum bandwidth of 15 Mbps is recommended.
- Included integrated webcam and microphone recommended.
This is an asynchronous, cohort based, instructor-led course with defined start date, end date and specific module due dates. Learners are not expected to be online at a certain time of day, but they are expected to work through the material alongside other learners. Learners should expect to spend 16-18 hours on coursework throughout each week to stay on track.
To successfully complete your program, you will complete all components of the program. Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program.
