Senior: Social Science - General ABQ

Using an integrated approach to curriculum, this course will enable teachers to receive additional qualifications for the senior division in social sciences (example: psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science, women and gender studies). Topics such as curriculum planning, teaching strategies and assessment of learning experiences for the senior division will be included in this course.

Program Information

What you’ll learn studying Senior: Social Science – General ABQ:

This ABQ course examines subject-specific content related to the nature, study, and teaching the Senior General Social Sciences courses in Ontario: Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology (HSP3M) and Challenge & Change in Society (HSB4M).

  • Discover the importance and rational for studying Social Sciences
  • Develop an awareness of the research and inquiry skills required in the Social Science disciplines
  • Acquire general professional knowledge necessary to teach Social Sciences
  • Engage in activities that will provide a perspective on effective teaching practices and student learning
  • Examine effective assessment and evaluation practices

Materials

  • Your instructor will notify you of any materials required for the course.

Technology

  • Laptop/PC: Windows 10 or higher or equivalent operating system with recommended 8 GB of RAM and at least 16 GB of free hard disk space and Wi-Fi capabilities.
  • Access to reliable  high-speed broadband internet access (Cable, DSL, LTE) with a minimum bandwidth of 15 Mbps is recommended.
  • Included integrated webcam and microphone recommended.

Prerequisites

  • OCT MEMBERSHIP confirming you are an OCT member with an undergraduate degree.
  • YOUR UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT(S)*
    Your transcript(s) must show: The equivalent of 3.0 full undergraduate/graduate credits or the equivalent of 2.0 full undergraduate/graduate credits if you already hold another senior qualification. People-centered courses from many disciplines are acceptable: Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Women and Gender Studies, Political Science etc.

To successfully complete your program, you will complete all components of the program. Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program.

Intake Details

For ASY- Asynchronous Online delivery of this course, the course will have a set start and finish date, along with set due dates for assignments and assessments. This does not require real-time communications. However, instructors may arrange optional real-time online group discussions during your course. You will not be required to be on-campus for any reason.
