This course focuses on the discipline and theory underpinning the study of science. As an Additional Basic Qualification, this course also explores the development of adolescents, program planning and delivery issues, the elementary and secondary school environment and other issues related to teaching and learning in grades 7 to 10. At least one half of the course concentrates on subject specific curriculum.

What you’ll learn studying Intermediate: Science – General ABQ:

  • Incorporate professional knowledge to create engaging programs.
  • Explore pedagogical processes, assessments, and evaluation practices that connect curriculum to learner interests, strengths, inquiries, needs, and well-being.
  • Apply Ontario curriculum, resources, and government policies, frameworks, and strategies to design Intermediate Science courses.
  • Explore the integration of culturally inclusive pedagogies in program design, planning, and development.

Technology

  • Laptop/PC: Windows 10 or higher or equivalent operating system with recommended 8 GB of RAM and at least 16 GB of free hard disk space and Wi-Fi capabilities.
  • Access to reliable  high-speed broadband internet access (Cable, DSL, LTE) with a minimum bandwidth of 15 Mbps is recommended.
  • Included integrated webcam and microphone recommended.

Prerequisites

  • OCT MEMBERSHIP confirming you are an OCT member with an undergraduate degree.
  • UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT(S)
    Your transcript(s) must show: The equivalent of 2.0 full undergraduate/graduate credits in at least two of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

To successfully complete your program, you will complete all components of the program. Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program.

Intake Details

For ASY- Asynchronous Online delivery of this course, the course will have a set start and finish date, along with set due dates for assignments and assessments. This does not require real-time communications. However, instructors may arrange optional real-time online group discussions during your course. You will not be required to be on-campus for any reason.
