The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games offers a rare opportunity for our students to volunteer with the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games Host Society and local community organizations, as a way to gain valuable, tangible experience. In the lead up to the Canada Games, there will be a variety of student volunteer news that we will share as a way to celebrate the spirit and legacy of community engagement at Brock University.
During the months leading up to the Games, there will be articles, Q&As, profiles and other material highlighting the Brock University Volunteer Association (BUVA), and other news about student community engagement. BUVA provides a unique, opportunity for students to interact with their peers, receive ongoing training, connect with other community-minded students, and gain access to unique volunteer opportunities with the Games and other community organizations in Niagara.

As most Brock students complete the Fall Term virtually, Odelia Chiu hopes they will consider online opportunities to volunteer as well.
Chiu, a second-year Political Science student, has been passionate about volunteering for as long as she can remember. After helping out at autism therapy programs throughout her childhood, the 18-year-old Markham native sought out similar opportunities when she began her studies at Brock.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is now available to Brock University students.
Interested Brock students are being sought by the 2021 Canada Summer Games to serve as volunteer media leads.
Though the Games are still more than a year away, the media leads will be selected by organizers in the coming weeks for the more than 15 competition and ceremonies venues that will take place throughout Niagara.

Hope Eze loves to help others.
While studying at Brock University, the Ugbawka, Nigeria native has managed to continue her passion for volunteering by helping local organizations and giving back to girls in need around the world.
Eze is entering the home stretch of her master’s of English Language and Literature studies, but as an active member of the Brock University Volunteer Association (BUVA), her involvement at the University has gone far beyond the classroom.

Though their awards ceremony was cancelled, a group of Brock University students and community partners are still receiving the credit they deserve.
The Student Life Engagement Awards were scheduled to be presented at a banquet Friday, March, 27; however, the University’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic meant the honours could not be delivered in their traditional form.

From the quiet murmur of conversations with his colleagues to the enthusiastic roar of a wrestling crowd, Jason Xiao has heard it all in his time with the Brock University Volunteer Association (BUVA).
Founded in September 2019 as an initiative leading up to the 2021 Canada Games, BUVA is a group of trained Brock students committed to improving the local community by volunteering for at least 20 hours each year.
