Brock-Canada Games Academic Report

In 2018, Brock University launched its academic partnership with the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games. A key outcome of this four year campus-wide initiative was the creation of a report to celebrate the teaching, research and community engagement achievements.

On behalf of Interim President and Vice-Chancellor, Provost and Vice-President Academic, Lynn Wells, welcome to this website that celebrates the partnership between Brock, the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games (CSG) Host Committee and our Niagara Region communities, as we prepare to make the 2022 Games a national showcase.

As our Institutional Strategic Plan makes clear, Brock is a committed partner who supports regional and community vitality, a proud Niagara institution that pursues a global reach through leadership in experiential education and work-integrated learning; research, scholarly and creative activities; and support for the vibrancy of communities.

Brock University enthusiastically welcomes the social, cultural and athletic opportunities that the 2022 CSG will bring to Niagara, and in alignment with our Strategic Plan, we have established a strategy to build an academic legacy for the 2022 Games. Complementing the Games’ physical infrastructure that will benefit Niagara for years to come, the academic legacy will maximize experiential learning opportunities for our students and promote partnerships with our community through curricular, research and community engagement activities.

This capacity will continue to build in the lead-up to the Games, provide support during the 2022 CSG, and establish a lasting academic legacy for future Canada Games.

We welcome you to this website and encourage your participation. Let’s work together to make the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games a truly inspirational and transformative celebration for all.

Julie Stevens

Special Advisor to the President – Canada Games
Professor, Department of Sport Management

As Special Advisor to the University President for the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games, I am excited to be the academic lead for the Games here at Brock.

Members of the Brock community have formed a Brock-Canada Games Academic Committee to liaise with the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games (CSG) Host Committee, and partner with community organizations and individuals. The Academic Committee is truly a campus-wide collaboration involving faculty, staff and students from all academic disciplines and all academic support units.

The Games is a phenomenon that connects to multiple disciplines — art, culture, communication, marketing and sport — and we have identified specific goals and secured project funding in order to expand curricular and academic program development, initiate new research projects and foster enhanced community partnerships.

Through these three areas of focus, the Academic Committee has adopted a strategy that is designed to link Brock’s educational capacity with research, teaching, learning, and community engagement afforded by the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games. We aspire to provide a lasting academic legacy for our University, the Niagara Region, and the development of sport in Canada.

If you are interested to hear more about how the Niagara 2022 CSG might connect with your interests, please reach out to me directly. On behalf of the Academic Canada Games Committee, we welcome your participation.
