Welcome to the website for Brock University’s Graduate Program in Psychology. Our website will introduce you to the faculty, the facilities, and the program as well as provide you with information about admission requirements and application procedures.

Our program provides intensive research training in the fields of Behavioural & Cognitive Neuroscience, Social/Personality Psychology, and Lifespan Development. We also value collaborative work that allows students to link across focal areas to pursue the research questions they seek to address.

We currently have approximately 50 MA and PhD students in our program. These students work closely with one or more faculty members with active research programs (see the “faculty research interests” link to learn more about the research interests of individual faculty members and their labs). The program also provides our doctoral students with numerous opportunities to individualize their graduate education through independent study papers, and through apprenticeships in teaching, research and/or community settings.

Note that we provide financial support (stipends and teaching assistant positions) for all of our full-time students during the standard residency (2 years for M.A. and 3 to 4 years for Ph.D.) and many of our students are successful in attaining external funding (NSERC, SSHRC, OGS) in support of their studies. Because our undergraduate curriculum has a seminar component, the majority of teaching assistant positions that our graduate students receive involve leading seminars or labs, thus providing great teaching experience.

Students can apply to do an M.A. only or (with the appropriate background) a Ph.D. only. However, most students will be interested in an M.A./Ph.D. combination and such applications are certainly encouraged. It is our hope that those entering graduate studies at the M.A. level will, if they meet criteria, remain with us through to their Ph.D. We also provide a part-time option across the entire program for those who have other major commitments.
