Academic Advising

IMPORTANT:
Please note that our office will be closed the week of June 8 – 12, 2026 to assist with Spring Convocation ceremonies.
We will re-open on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Booked Appointments

Appointments with the Brock Academic Advising Team can be booked through your my.brocku.ca portal (please see the section entitled “How to book an appointment” below for step-by-step instructions). We open appointments 5 business days in advance, and you may need to check the booking system frequently for appointment availability as appointments can be booked up quickly.

Please note that drop-ins are always available Monday-Thursday afternoon each week as well — if all appointment times on a given day are booked, do not hesitate to connect with us during drop-ins instead!

If you have chosen a virtual appointment, your Advisor will call you through Microsoft Teams at your appointment time. Instructions on how to book a virtual appointment with your Academic Advisor:

  1. Log into my.brocku.ca portal and book an appointment with your Academic Advisor
  2. Receive an invitation sent by your Academic Advisor from Microsoft Teams Calendar
  3. Accept the invitation
  4. Go to the Teams Calendar and click on your appointment
  5. Click “Join” to join the appointment

Drop-ins

Our office offers drop-in advising Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons between 1:30-3:30pm. During these times, drop-ins are available in-person or virtually via Microsoft Teams! No appointment is required to be pre-booked during these hours — we simply assist students on a first come, first served basis.

If you plan to attend drop-in hours in-person:

Please head to our lobby (located at the end of the main Thistle corridor), sign into our kiosk, and have a seat! We will call you when it is your turn in the queue.

If you plan to attend drop-ins virtually:

Students must first check into our virtual queue to reserve a spot.

Once you have completed your check-in, please stand by and ensure you are logged into and monitoring your Brock student account on Microsoft Teams. When it is your turn in the virtual queue, an Advisor will send you a message on Microsoft Teams to initiate a call. Please do not submit additional tickets afterwards as this will move you to the back of the queue.

It is important to also note that there is a limited number of virtual drop-in tickets that we have the capacity to accept during each drop-in session. If all virtual tickets have been claimed during a given session, you are still welcome to stop by our lobby for in-person drop-ins!

Drop-in vs. Booked Appointments

Drop-in Advising sessions (approximately 10 minutes) are best for:

  • Quick, general questions about university processes, regulations, policies
  • Students needing assistance with campus navigation or developing a starting point to resolve an academic question/concern
  • Students seeking immediate academic assistance

Booked Appointments (approximately 30 minutes) are best for:

  • Students with multiple questions regarding their academics
  • Students (particularly at the upper-year level) with complex or in-depth academic issues/concerns
  • Questions or concerns that are not time-sensitive

That said, we appreciate the fact that each student case is unique and may not fit into the definitions described above! As such, you are always welcome to start by attending our drop-in sessions as they are the best method to promptly connect with our team. If it is determined that it would be best for you to return for a lengthier conversation via a booked appointment session, we will help schedule a future timeslot.
