Kevin Turner has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Tourism Studies and cross-appointed with Earth Sciences at Brock University since 2013. During that time Kevin has expanded his hydrology research in Old Crow Flats (OCF) with a focus to refine our knowledge of how climate-induced landscape changes are affecting the hydrology and carbon balance of northern lake-rich landscapes. He has been working since 2007 to track hydrological conditions and identify associated drivers in OCF. He has led 12 field-sampling campaigns in northern Yukon and has integrated multiple approaches including water isotope tracers, paleolimnology, dendrochronology, and remote sensing, including the use of unmanned aviation systems, to characterize hydrological and landscape change over multiple spatial and temporal scales. As an affiliate of the NASA-ABoVE program, he will be evaluating the utility of leading-edge remote sensing datasets for modeling catchment characteristics and lake and river hydrological conditions in OCF. Kevin’s research program aims to enhance land management and adaptation strategies as climate continues to change.
