Greetings from the Department of Music! We welcome all enquiries from prospective students interested in our music program. If you would like a tour of the Department, or have any questions about our audition day or our program, please don't hesitate to contact us.

The audition day consists of the following (arrive for 10:00 am and plan on a full day):

  • an information session about our music program
  • a written theory assessment (RCM Advanced or Grade II level Rudiments: scales, intervals, triads, rhythm and meter, cadences, etc.)
  • an aural/vocal assessment (sight-singing and ear training)
  • an interview
  • a keyboard proficiency assessment (Gr. IV in piano recommended)
  • a vocal or instrumental audition (classical repertoire)

  • For BMus, three contrasting works or movements are required (minimum Gr. IX RCM or equivalent level) Singers, pianists and guitarists who wish to be considered for BMus must have their pieces memorized.
  • For BA, two contrasting works or movements are required (minimum Gr. V RCM or equivalent level)
  • Our programs involve instruction in classical repertoire only; accordingly you may select a maximum of ONE non-classical piece for your audition
  • A live accompanist is required for all repertoire that requires accompaniment. You may bring your own accompanist, or if you prefer, an accompanist is available at your audition for a charge of $45 payable in cash or cheque at the audition. Please make this request when you book your audition date.

Please arrive at 9:45 a.m. You will probably finish the process around 4:30 p.m.

Location: Dept. of Music Office (Thistle 149B)

To reserve an audition date, first contact the Department of Music Administrative Assistant: e-mail:
