  • Six Nations all-stars return to Brock in lacrosse friendlies

    MEDIA RELEASE: 6 September 2017 – R00153

As Brock University continues to grow its partnership with the indigenous community, the Brock Badgers lacrosse teams are set to host the Six Nations All-Stars in a pair of exhibition games for the second straight year.

The pair of friendly matchups against the Six Nations teams will take place this Saturday, Sept. 9 with the women playing at 10 a.m. and the men playing at noon.

The exhibition games are the result of a collaboration between Brock’s Aboriginal Student Services and Brock Sports.

“It is very important to host the Six Nations men’s and women’s lacrosse teams at Brock University,” said Brock Sports Assistant Athletic Director Chris Critelli. “Not only is it great competition for our teams, but also a fabulous partnership that we have built with the indigenous community. It also provides a great opportunity to showcase our campus.”

“It’s important that we involve the aboriginal community in events to promote university education to our aboriginal youth,” said Sandra Wong, the University’s Aboriginal Academic Support Program Coordinator. “This event is a great opportunity to showcase the talent of the participants and promote Brock Sports to prospective students bridging sports and academics.”

Both games will take place on Brock’s Alumni Field. Admission is free.

  • Brock Bazaar to raise funds for student volunteer experience

    MEDIA RELEASE: 5 September 2017 – R00152

It’s a chance to score a good deal while supporting students who want to help others.

The second annual Brock Bazaar will be held Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Academic South hallway. The event raises money for the University’s Alternative Reading Week program, which allows students to participate in volunteer work both in the local community and abroad.

The community wide yard sale, hosted by the Brock Leaders Citizenship Society, allows Brock students, faculty and staff, as well as the broader public, to register and sell their items. The $20 registration fee for sellers is donated to the ARW program, while vendors get to keep whatever they make from selling their items.

Parking for the event is free in D Lot. Registration can be done online or by visiting Mackenzie Chown A-Block 204. Anyone who would like to donate items to the cause but is unable to attend can connect with organizers via the above link.
