    MEDIA RELEASE: 15 April 2021 – R0045

Niagara Parks and Brock University’s Environmental Sustainability Research Centre have partnered once again to host an Environmental Stewardship Speaker Series, which will start with an Earth Day event next week.

The ongoing virtual series will kick off at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22 with guest speaker Robyn Bourgeois, Acting Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement at Brock University, who will discuss the connection between the land, body and traditional knowledge.

To learn more and join the audience live on the day of the event, visit the Environmental Speaker Series website here.

The series aims to showcase a diverse collection of renowned environmental leaders and is part of Brock and Niagara Parks’ ongoing collaboration and support through the Excellence in Environmental Stewardship Initiative. In recent years, this has included the development of the Niagara Parks Environmental Stewardship Strategy and Action Plan, in addition to providing Brock faculty and students access to Niagara Parks properties such as the Niagara Glen to complete important environmental research and engagement initiatives.

Both partners hope to announce additional speakers as a part of this ongoing series in the coming months.

  • Sandbox Theatre performance to explore the state of today’s world

Brock University’s fourth-year Dramatic Arts (DART) student company, Sandbox Theatre, is exploring the cyclical nature of life, repetition of struggles for justice and the resilience of young people in a timely new online production entitled Ouroboros.

The show runs Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. as livestreamed performances on the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts (MIWSFPA) YouTube channel. The performances are free to view, but registration is required via Brock University Tickets to reserve a viewing spot.

A presentation by DART 4F56 Advanced Studies in Theatre students, Ouroboros is a thought-provoking multimedia performance that brings together a range of perspectives and revelations about the manifestation of power in today’s society.

This virtual production is created, produced and performed by DART graduating students under the direction of guest Instructor Lisa Marie DiLiberto of Theatre Direct. Created through devised collaboration and directed by DART student Sid Malcolm, Ouroboros is inspired by individual theatre pieces curated into a theatrical anthology.

The story is one of injustice, love, anxiety and hope expressed through spoken word and movement. The pieces in Ouroboros are entirely original works and offer a passionate glimpse into contemporary political and social issues.

Each performance will be followed by a livestream “talkback” discussion panel hosted by members of Sandbox Theatre. Audience members will have the opportunity to find out more about the collaborative process and inspiration behind the creation of this new performance piece.

While there is no cost for tickets, donations are encouraged to support the Black Health Alliance, a community-led registered charity working to improve the health and well-being of Black communities in Canada.

To book your viewing reservation on the MIWSFPA YouTube channel, please visit Brock University Tickets.
