Goodman to honour visionary entrepreneur Michael Lee-Chin

MEDIA RELEASE: 17 October 2019 – R00161

Prominent entrepreneur Michael Lee-Chin has been selected as the Goodman School of Business 2019 Distinguished Leader.

Lee-Chin’s philosophy of “doing well and doing good” has resulted in extraordinary business success and inspiring philanthropic initiatives.

The community is invited to attend a fireside chat with Lee-Chin in conversation with Goodman Dean Andrew Gaudes Thursday, Oct. 24 in the Goodman School of Business Atrium at Brock University.

“I’m very proud to have Lee-Chin recognized as our distinguished leader,” says Gaudes. “We are delighted and honoured to provide our students and the broader community access to such a transformational leader who consistently demonstrates the importance of investing in the future by giving back.”

Each year, the Goodman School of Business honours prominent Canadian business leaders and connects the recipients with Goodman students and the Brock community.

Lee-Chin is the Chairman of Portland Holdings and Chairman and CEO of Mandeville Private Client Inc. As the founder of Portland, Lee-Chin’s business accomplishments span various countries and numerous sectors. At the helm, he has established an investment philosophy and guiding principles for each of the companies under Portland. The businesses follow the premise that they must seek to improve the social well-being of the communities in which they operate.

Lee-Chin will spend the afternoon on campus, taking part in a roundtable with student leaders. A public reception will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by the fireside chat at 6 p.m. As space is limited, people who wish to attend are asked to register online.

Past recipients of the award include Julia Deans, past CEO of the Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation, Futurpreneur Canada and CivicAction; Deepak Chopra, retired President and CEO of Canada Post; Martine Irman of TD Bank Group; Rossana Magnotta of Magnotta Winery; and Len Pennachetti of Cave Spring Cellars, among others.

The event is supported by the Wilmot Foundation and is part of the D.G. Wilmot leader series.
