Brock experts available for comment on Ontario’s Climate Change Plan

EXPERT ADVISORY: R00118 – 8 June 2016

The Ontario government today released its Climate Change Action Plan 2016-2020.

The plan lists a variety of measures to fight climate change in the transportation, housing, land use planning, industry, business and other sectors.

These measures are aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide, which are major contributors to climate change.

Brock University has two experts available to comment on various aspects of Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan.

Professor of Biology Liette Vasseur (905-348-6233; lvasseur@brocku.ca) can speak to:
•    The importance of designing urban centres and subdivisions to accommodate cyclists.
•    The development of public transportation systems and other alternatives to reduce car use.
•    The need to act now “rather than waiting and having to pay more later.”

Professor of Geography Tony Shaw (905-688-5550 x3866; tshaw@brocku.ca) can discuss the planned changes for carbon emission reduction, Ontario building codes and renewable energy strategies. He is available after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
