The BUSU/GSV Advisory Committee brings together students, Brock University representatives, and key campus partners to provide advice and feedback on initiatives, policies, and prevention efforts related to gender-based and sexual violence.

As a student member, you will have an opportunity to:

• Share student perspectives on Brock’s gender-based and sexual violence initiatives.
• Provide feedback on policies, programs, services, and prevention efforts.
• Help shape future initiatives that support safer, more inclusive campus communities.
• Contribute to prevention efforts related to gender-based and sexual violence, including human trafficking.
• Bring forward priorities and perspectives that can help strengthen Brock’s ongoing work.

This is a volunteer opportunity open to all current Brock students.

About

The BUSU/GSV Advisory Committee provides a space for students and campus partners to contribute to Brock University’s ongoing work to prevent and address gender-based and sexual violence.

The Committee supports Brock’s obligations under Ontario’s Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan Act, 2016 (Bill 132), which requires publicly assisted colleges and universities to consult with students in the development and review of sexual violence policies.

The Committee also provides advice and oversight related to Brock University’s human trafficking prevention efforts. In this capacity, the Committee will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of relevant policies, procedures, and prevention initiatives; review these measures at least every two years; and provide recommendations to support ongoing improvement and compliance with applicable requirements.

The Committee’s work is informed by student perspectives and by the experiences and expertise of campus partners working in areas related to gender-based and sexual violence prevention, response, equity, and student support.

Membership and Term

The Committee meets six times per academic year in closed session.

Membership includes student representatives, representatives from the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) and Brock’s Gender & Sexual Violence team, as well as other campus partners identified by the Committee. These may include representatives from areas such as Residence Life, Hadiya’dagénhahs, and International Student Services.

Student members:

• Must be current Brock University students.
• Participate as volunteers.
• May serve for up to two consecutive terms.
• May be eligible for a third consecutive term in exceptional circumstances, as determined by the Committee.
