About the Review
Brock University is committed to maintaining a Sexual Violence Policy (SVP) that is responsive, accessible, and reflective of current legislation, emerging best practices, and the needs of our community.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and in alignment with the review timeline in the policy, the University began undertaking a review of the SVP in June 2026. The review process provides an opportunity to assess the current policy, consider feedback from community members, and identify areas for clarification, enhancement, or improvement.

Consultation Principles
The consultation process will be guided by the following principles:
- Multiple pathways for participation. Community members will be able to participate through focus groups, affinity spaces, a survey, and/or written feedback.
- Accessibility. Consultation opportunities will be designed to reduce barriers to participation and accommodate different ways of engaging.
- Trauma-informed practice. Participants will not be asked to disclose personal experiences of sexual violence in order to provide meaningful feedback on the policy.
- Survivor-centred practice. The experiences and perspectives of people with lived experience will be meaningfully incorporated while avoiding expectations that survivors disclose or participate.
- Equity and inclusion. Consultation will intentionally create opportunities for participation from communities whose experiences of sexual violence and interactions with institutional systems may be shaped by their identities, circumstances, or social location.
- Confidentiality and privacy. Consultation activities will be designed to minimize the collection of identifying or unnecessary personal information.
- Transparency. Participants will be provided with information about the purpose of the consultation, how feedback will be used, and the limits of the consultation process.
What We Are Reviewing
The review will consider:
- Changes to legislation and regulatory requirements
- Emerging best practices in sexual violence prevention, response, and support
- Benchmarking against comparator post-secondary policies
- Feedback received through consultations
- Opportunities to improve accessibility, clarity, transparency, and survivor-centred practices within the policy and related procedures
Policy Review Updates
This page will be updated at key stages of the review process to provide information about consultation opportunities, timelines, and major milestones.
Following the consultation period, a summary of the feedback received and recommendations arising from the consultation will be shared with the Brock community. Once the review is complete, the revised Sexual Violence Policy will also be posted here.
Timeline
The institution-wide consultation process will take place throughout November, providing students, faculty, and staff with opportunities to share feedback on the Sexual Violence Policy. Feedback will be consolidated and synthesized into a consultation report in mid-December to inform the next phase of the policy review.
