Accessibility Consultant Micro-credential

Get comprehensive training to become an Accessibility Consultant. Gain the skills, tools, and knowledge to recognize the gaps in an organization’s accessibility practices and build plans to implement change in creating accessible and inclusive spaces, physically, digitally, relationally and attitudinally.

This Accessibility Consultant Micro-credential is four module, self-paced online training pathway to make accessibility and inclusion a reality for people of any ability. Learners will get training on how to become Accessibility Consultants as a career or within their organization.

Taking this accessibility and inclusion training at Brock, learners will cover five areas of accessibility standards through lenses of Customer Service, Communication, Employment, and Design for Public and Digital Spaces. Learners will cover these through four self-paced modules.

Upon successful completion of all the required modules, learners will be awarded the Accessibility Consultant Certificate of Completion from Brock University that recognizes their accomplishment.

Program Information

What you’ll learn studying Accessibility and AODA at Brock

  • Comprehensive knowledge of AODA standards (with knowledge transfer to regional accessibility policies)
  • Skills to identify compliance with accessibility standards.

  • Professional implementation of AODA (or locally mandated) standards for workplace settings

This micro-credential is “full stack” training on accessibility and inclusion. It includes learning and practical applications on all areas of accessibility training needed to become an accessibility consultant. Standards, requirements, and compliance are important features of any commitment to authentic engagement with citizens of any abilities; moving beyond compliance acknowledges a commitment to human rights and responsibilities.

Built Environment, Information, and Communication Technologies

Professionalism and Scope of Practice

Prerequisites

  • Microsoft Office Skills including Microsoft Teams

Technology Requirements

For in-person and online studies:
  • Laptop: Windows 10 or higher or equivalent operating system with recommended 8 GB of  RAM and at least 16 GB of free hard disk space and Wi-Fi capabilities.
Online studies only:
  • Access to reliable high-speed broadband internet access (Cable, DSL, LTE) with a minimum bandwidth of 15 Mbps is recommended.
  • Laptop must include integrated webcam and microphone.

To successfully complete your program, you will need to complete all the components outlined in your course. Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program. 

Intake Details

Self-paced courses are entirely online and asynchronous, meaning you progress through the material without direct instructor guidance.
