This micro-credential introduces students to the concept of intersectional environmentalism, which is a crucial form of environmentalism that includes protecting people and the planet they live on. It will explore the overlapping social and environmental injustices in various communities and identify how they are interconnected. Learners will learn how our social, economic, health, governmental, and environmental issues are all connected and explore just solutions for a more sustainable future.
Program Information
What you’ll learn studying Intersectional Environmentalism
- Describe the fundamentals of climate change science
- Explain observed and projected trends in the climate
- Identify the implications (impacts) of climate change in the local and global context
- Understand vulnerability in the context of climate change
- Identify mitigation actions as well as how to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change
- Demonstrate how resilience to climate change can be fostered through action
Intersectional Environmentalism for:
- Individuals interested in environmental studies, sustainability, and social justice.
- Students, activists, policymakers, researchers, and anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in addressing environmental challenges with a focus on social justice and inclusivity.
All materials are included in course fees.
PREREQUISITES
- No prerequisites are required to take this offering.
- The course can be utilized as an elective towards gaining a Leadership in Environmental Sustainability Certificate.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
- General computer and technology use abilities
- Working laptop with high-speed internet access
To successfully complete your program, you will need to complete all the components outlined in your course. Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program.
This is an online offering that allows learners the opportunity to connect with the instructor and their peers during synchronous class times. Synchronous sessions are not mandatory and sessions will be recorded and shared with learners.
