In order to have effective interactions with those who are culturally different from ourselves, we need a general understanding of culture’ to start. This course will help participants appreciate the complexity of culture and of intercultural interactions.

In this course, participants will explore their own as well as others’ understanding of the concept of culture. They will come to appreciate how culture can be defined by race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, language or any multitude of other diverse groups. With a clear understanding of culture, participants will be ready to examine the complexities of their own and others’ cultural values, beliefs and behaviours, and how this complexity affects their intercultural interactions.

  • Examine various definitions and metaphors that will provide clarity to their understanding of culture

  • General computer and technology use abilities
  • Working laptop with high-speed internet access

To successfully complete your program, you will need to complete all the components outlined in your course. Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program.
