What you’ll learn studying Senior: English ABQ:
- Examine the scope and sequence of skill development across the strands in the core courses and compare expectations in the university pathway to those in the college and workplace pathways.
- Extend knowledge of the Senior English curriculum by connecting to equitable strategies for assessing and evaluating student learning, including formative and summative assessment, differentiated assessment, and methods for assessing the four strands of the senior English curriculum.
- Identify methods of triangulating assessment data to ensure equitable approaches to evaluation and understand the role professional judgement plays in determining grades.
- Explore various instructional strategies intended to provide an equitable approach to meeting the curriculum expectations for Senior English.
- Develop an awareness of the importance of critical thinking and critical literacy skills in Senior English courses
- Reflect on the function of power and oppression in literary texts and develop strategies to teach students how to analyze fiction, non-fiction, and media texts critically.
- Consider the merits and limitations of the 5-paragraph essay while exploring the implications of recent developments in Artificial Intelligence for writing instruction.

Prerequisites
- OCT MEMBERSHIP confirming you are an OCT member with an undergraduate degree.

Your transcript(s) must show: The equivalent of 3.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate credits in English. or the equivalent of 2.0 full-year undergraduate/graduate credits if you already hold another senior qualification. 1.0 of the required credits must be in English Literature/Writing.Please note that we will accept a successfully completed graduate-level thesis or dissertation as 1.0 full-year English credit.
To successfully complete your program, you will complete all components of the program. Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program.
Intake Details
For ASY- Asynchronous Online delivery of this course, the course will have a set start and finish date, along with set due dates for assignments and assessments. This does not require real-time communications. However, instructors may arrange optional real-time online group discussions during your course. You will not be required to be on-campus for any reason.
