
In this Honour Specialist Additional Qualification in Health and Physical Education, you will deepen your expertise as an H&PE educator and develop the leadership skills needed to support high-quality programming in Ontario schools. Across six integrated modules, you will examine the Foundations of Professional Practice, apply EDISJA frameworks to identify and address systemic barriers, and strengthen your understanding of effective instruction, assessment, and evaluation. You will explore strategies that promote health and physical literacy, enhance student well-being and safety, and build inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments. Through research-informed inquiry, collaborative learning, and reflective practice, you will apply professional judgment to complex H&PE scenarios, design responsive instructional approaches, and develop leadership practices that support colleagues, departments, and whole-school communities. By the end of the course, you will synthesize your learning into actionable plans that enhance H&PE programs and contribute to equitable, safe, and meaningful learning experiences for all students.

- Apply inclusive, culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate instructional, assessment and evaluation strategies that support diverse learners
- Design H&PE learning experiences that integrate UDL, DI, physical literacy, health literacy and SEL to promote safety, engagement and agency
- Collaborate with colleagues through mentoring, professional learning structures and leadership practices that strengthen school and department growth
- Evaluate instructional, assessment and leadership decisions using research-informed frameworks to enhance consistent, equitable H&PE programming
- Reflect on your professional identity, leadership capacity and areas for growth to set actionable, ongoing goals that advance H&PE practice in your school community
Prerequisites
- 1) OCT MEMBERSHIP We will use the OCT number you provide during online registration to confirm that your Certificate of Qualifications shows certification in at least two teaching divisions (Primary, Junior, Intermediate, Senior).
- 2) YOUR ORIGINAL UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT(S)*
Your transcript(s) must show:- The equivalent of 9.0 full year undergraduate/graduate courses in this teaching subject with a minimum ‘B’ average in these courses (Must be a combination of Health AND Phys-ed courses)
- A Bachelor’s degree at an accredited university with the equivalent of 20.0 full year courses
- 3) CONFIRMATION OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE FORM
- Signed by a Supervisory Official* from your School Board confirming that you have two years (388 days) of teaching experience since becoming a certified teacher, one year (194 days) of which is in the subject area of this course.

This is an asynchronous, cohort based, instructor-led course with defined start date, end date and specific module due dates. Learners are not expected to be online at a certain time of day, but they are expected to work through the material alongside other learners. Learners should expect to spend 16-18 hours on coursework throughout each week to stay on track.
To successfully complete your program, you will complete all assignments, activities and discussions by the posted deadlines in the program.
Your progress will be continuously evaluated using a variety of formative and/or summative assessments to receive a final mark. Information about these assessment methods will be provided in the Learning Management System on the first day of the program.
