Wayne T. Jolly, PhD (1940–2008)
Professor Wayne Jolly sadly passed away on February 9, 2008. He will be greatly missed by the Department and by colleagues and friends worldwide. A celebration of his life and work took place at Pond Inlet, Brock University, on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 5.00 p.m. Wayne's family, the Brock community, and many of Wayne's former students were in attendance.
On February 27–March 1, 2008, the Department of Geology, University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez held the 24th Annual Symposium of Caribbean Geology – A Wayne Jolly Memorial.
On April 1, 2008, Prof. Alan Dickin of McMaster University presented a Departmental talk entitled: Geological and literary evidence about Noah’s Flood: A tribute to Wayne Jolly’s interest in ancient history.
Professor
Petrologist specializing in petrogenesis of island arc volcanic rocks and associated peridotite sources and subducted sediments from the Caribbean region.

Research
The principal thrust of present research includes major and trace element and isotope geochemistry of island arc volcanic rocks in the northeast Antilles, including Puerto Rico, the US and British Virgin Islands.
Specific research interests and activities
- The role of subducted pelagic sediments in Antilles island arc volcanism
- Low-pressure crustal melting processes and the generation of plagiorhyolites in island arc terrains
- Geochemistry of pre-arc basement rocks in the northeast Antilles, including normal mid-ocean ridge basalt (Jurassic MORB) and incompatible element enriched within-plate basalt (WPB)
