  • Conciliation requested in bargaining with OSSTF

Representatives from Brock University and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, Local 35 (OSSTF-35), which represents Office, Clerical, Administrative and Library Support employees, are continuing to actively bargain a renewal collective agreement.

The existing collective agreement between the parties expired on April 30, 2021 and the parties have met in bargaining on 12 dates since the spring.

At this time, the University has applied to the Ontario Ministry of Labour to appoint a conciliation officer to assist the parties in reaching a collective agreement. Conciliation is a normal part of the collective bargaining process in Ontario. A union or employer may apply to the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry will appoint a conciliation officer. That person is a neutral third-party who can provide assistance in reaching a collective agreement.

The University remains committed to reaching a negotiated settlement, and looks forward to continuing discussions with OSSTF-35. Brock is focused on reaching an agreement that reflects the important work members of the bargaining unit perform, while respecting the current legislation in Ontario and the operational needs of the University.

Further updates will be provided to the community as discussions continue.
