  • Tentative agreement with OSSTF ratified

    Brock reached a tentative collective agreement with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation District 35 (OSSTF) on Jan. 16, 2025.

    On Jan. 27, the agreement was ratified by Brock’s Board of Trustees. Previously, OSSTF members voted in favour of ratification on Jan. 16.

    OSSTF represents approximately 148 office, clerical, administrative and library support staff. The three-year agreement is in effect from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2027.

    A draft of the new collective agreement will be available on the University’s website in the near future.

  • Brock and OSSTF District 35 reach tentative deal 

    Brock has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation District 35.

    Details of the agreement will be released once it has been ratified by the University’s Board of Trustees and the union.

    OSSTF District 35 represents approximately 150 office, clerical, administrative and library support staff.

  • Update on negotiations with OSSTF

    A tentative agreement has not yet been reached between Brock University and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) District 35, which represents office, clerical, administrative and library support staff.

    Negotiations for a new collective agreement continue with the inclusion of a provincially-appointed mediator. The University remains hopeful that these talks will be successful and there will be no labour disruption on campus.

    If an agreement is not reached, the union has informed the University of its intention to strike as of Thursday, Jan. 16 at 12:01 a.m.

    In the event of a strike, Brock has contingency plans in place to ensure campus operations continue. In the event of a strike by OSSTF:

    • Campus will remain open and classes will continue as scheduled.
    • There will be delays entering campus, so plan accordingly.
    • Student services and campus facilities, including the Library, the Zone, the pool, and campus eateries, will remain open.
    • Research facilities will remain open.

    Brock remains committed to reaching a fair and equitable contract with OSSTF District 35 that reflects the important and valued work members of the bargaining unit perform, while respecting the current financial realities facing the University and the broader public sector in Ontario.

  • Negotiations continue with OSSTF

    Brock continues to work toward a new collective agreement with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) District 35, which represents office, clerical, administrative, and library support staff.

    The next bargaining date is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14 and will include a provincially-appointed mediator. Brock is hopeful that these talks will be successful and there will be no labour disruption on campus.

    On Dec. 30, the Ontario Ministry of Labour issued a “no board report” at the request of OSSTF. This means that, if an agreement is not reached, the union will be in a legal strike position as of Thursday, Jan. 16 at 12:01 a.m. This does not necessarily mean that a strike will occur at this time.

    Should the union decide to strike, Brock has contingency plans in place to ensure campus operations can continue.

  • Talks continue with OSSTF District 35

    Brock University continues to work towards renewal of the collective agreement with Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) District 35, which represents office, clerical, administrative and library support staff.

    On Dec. 30, the Ministry of Labour issued a no board report. The University remains committed to reaching a fair and equitable contract with OSSTF District 35 that reflects the important and valued work members of the bargaining unit perform, while respecting the current financial and fiscal realities facing the University and the broader public sector in Ontario.

  • Conciliation sought in negotiations with OSSTF District 35 for collective agreement

    Representatives from Brock University and Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) District 35, representing office, clerical, administrative and library support staff, have been actively bargaining for a renewal of the collective agreement, which expired on April 30, 2024.

    The Union applied to the Ontario Ministry of Labour and requested the appointment of a conciliation officer. A union or employer can apply to the Ontario Ministry of Labour for help in reaching an agreement. The parties have agreed to meet in conciliation on Aug. 19 and Aug. 21.

    The University remains committed to reaching a negotiated settlement and looks forward to continuing discussions with OSSTF District 35. Further updates will be provided to the community as discussions continue.

  • Collective agreement with OSSTF ratified

    On May 5th, 2022, the tentative agreement reached between Brock University and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF)  was ratified.

    OSSTF represents administrative and support staff across the University. The three-year agreement is in effect from May 1, 2021 to April 30, 2024.

  • Brock and OSSTF reach tentative deal

    Representatives from Brock University and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) reached a tentative agreement for a renewal collective agreement on Monday, March 28.

    Details of the tentative agreement will be released once it has been ratified by the parties.

    OSSTF represents administrative and support staff across the University and the previous collective agreement expired on April 30, 2021.

  • Conciliation requested in bargaining with OSSTF

    Representatives from Brock University and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, Local 35 (OSSTF-35), which represents Office, Clerical, Administrative and Library Support employees, are continuing to actively bargain a renewal collective agreement.

    The existing collective agreement between the parties expired on April 30, 2021 and the parties have met in bargaining on 12 dates since the spring.

    At this time, the University has applied to the Ontario Ministry of Labour to appoint a conciliation officer to assist the parties in reaching a collective agreement. Conciliation is a normal part of the collective bargaining process in Ontario. A union or employer may apply to the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry will appoint a conciliation officer. That person is a neutral third-party who can provide assistance in reaching a collective agreement.

    The University remains committed to reaching a negotiated settlement, and looks forward to continuing discussions with OSSTF-35. Brock is focused on reaching an agreement that reflects the important work members of the bargaining unit perform, while respecting the current legislation in Ontario and the operational needs of the University.

  • Renewal Collective Agreement with OSSTF Ratified

    On September 27, 2018, Brock University’s Board of Trustees ratified a renewal collective agreement that had been reached between the University and OSSTF, District 35. Bargaining unit members also ratified the agreement on September 27. 

    The three-year agreement is retroactive to May 1, 2018, and is effective to April 30, 2021.
