It is your responsibility to keep your documents safe. We recommend you make photocopies and/or digital copies of all your important documents so that you have a record in the event they are lost or stolen.
Do not carry your passport as everyday identification. A better document to use for ID is an Ontario driver’s license or Ontario photo card.
If you think one of your important documents has been lost or stolen, first retrace your steps in case you can find it. If you may have lost it on campus, check the Brock lost and found. In any other location, contact their lost and found.
Lost or Stolen Documents FAQ
If your passport was lost or stolen, contact your local Embassy or Consulate to report it and for information on replacement. If you had a visa in your lost/stolen passport, you can request a new visa once you have a new passport. You should include an explanation of why you are requesting a new visa and provide supporting documentation. See Temporary Resident Visa.
For information on how to apply to IRCC for a replacement, see replacement of an immigration document. It is a paper application that must be mailed to IRCC.
Check the processing times for an average on how long decisions are taking.
As long as your lost/stolen study permit is still valid, you can continue to study (and work, if eligible) under the conditions of your lost/stolen study permit.
If your study permit is expiring within 6 months, you should apply for an extension rather than a replacement and explain.
