What You Need to Know (Undergraduate Studies)

Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at a university, and be in good academic standing.

Applicants must submit a completed application form along with supporting documents such as transcript(s) with official letterhead and proof of English language proficiency. The application will also require a $75 non-refundable application fee.

For undergraduate admissions, Brock University accepts the following English Proficiency Tests/Scores

Brock accepts study abroad applicants for Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer Terms. Applications must be submitted by the following dates:

  • For Spring/Summer Term – February 15
  • For Fall Term or full academic year – April 15
  • For Winter Term only – October 15

Tuition and Fees Tuition fees vary by program. Please visit Student Accounts and Financial Aid (SAFA) to see an up-to-date listing of tuition and ancillary fees or to use the tuition fee estimator to build your budget.

Some of the fees you can expect to pay in addition to tuition are:

  • Application Fee
  • International recovery fee (charged by the Province of Ontario to all international students at public colleges and universities)
  • Universal Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) – This is mandatory health insurance coverage for all international students. Visit the International Student Supports UHIP page for more information.
  • BUSU Health and Dental Plan (mandatory fee for all international students)
  • Universal Transit Pass – mandatory for all students taking 1.5+ credits (3 courses).
  • Health Services Fee – mandatory fee to cover operating costs of Student Health Services on campus.

Residence and meal plan fees can be found on Brock’s Housing Services website.

Students studying for only one semester will pay for half of the residence and meal plan fees indicated on the residence website where applicable.

Visiting students are eligible to request courses from many of our academic departments. Your academic history as well as the availability of space in the course will determine whether you can register.

Undergraduate course registration for the Fall and Winter terms takes place in late July. Students considering studying at Brock in the Winter Term are encouraged to apply early. Course registration for Spring/Summer takes place in March for undergraduate courses.

Course Restrictions:

  • Internship and experiential placement courses (such as Co-op and community placements)
  • GAME program courses
  • Teacher Service Education courses (8P00/8F00 and above)

What You Need to Know (Graduate Studies)

The Graduate Inbound Study Abroad option is typically available for one term of study only, and to those planning to take the majority of courses at the graduate level.  

Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program and be in good academic standing at their home university.  

For graduate admissions, Brock University accepts the following English Proficiency Tests/Scores

1) Interest Form: Applicants interested in study abroad at the graduate level should first submit an Interest Form so we can learn more about your background and determine if Brock has suitable programing available. 

2) Application: If it is determined that Brock would be a good fit for your study abroad, we’ll ask you to complete a short online application and attach some supporting documents, including:  

  • Letter of Permission from your home university, on institutional letterhead from the Registrar’s Office or equivalent. The letter should indicate that you are permitted to attend Brock University to take courses relevant to your degree requirements at your home university, must indicate that credit will be given for the work completed, and should indicate the term(s) the applicant is permitted to attend Brock. 
  • Copy of official transcripts from your home university (scanned versions of official transcripts are accepted) 
  • If applicable, proof of English language proficiencyBrock University accepts the following English Proficiency Tests/Scores for graduate-level study. 

3) Application Fee: When your application is processed, we’ll provide instructions on how to pay the $75 Inbound Study Abroad payment fee. 

4) Course Selection: If you are approved for a study abroad term, Brock International will work with you to determine appropriate and available courses. Please see the ‘Course Information and Selection’ section below for details. 

Brock accepts study abroad applicants for Fall (September-start), Winter (January-start), and Spring/Summer (typically May start). Please note the course availability will be more limited in the Spring / Summer term.  

Applications must be submitted by the following dates:

Some of the fees you can expect to pay as an inbound graduate study abroad student include: 

  • Application Fee – $75 
  • Tuition – students taking graduate courses on a Letter of Permission are charged based on the number of courses taken. The current graduate non-degree fee (subject to change) is $1121.72 per 0.5 credit course. 
  • International recovery fee  $750, charged by the Province of Ontario to all international students at public colleges and universities. 
  • Applicable Graduate Ancillary Fees – these fees cover a variety of services at Brock including the mandatory University Health Insurance Plan (see the UHIP page for details), mandatory Health and Dental Plan (see GSA for details), the mandatory Health Services fee, a Universal Transit pass, etc. For details, see the Student Awards and Financial Aid’s Graduate Ancillary fees information 
  • Residence and meal plan – fees can be found on Brock’s Housing Services website. Students studying for only one semester will pay for half of the residence and meal plan fees indicated on the residence website where applicable. 

Inbound Study Abroad students typically study at Brock for one term only. Students are permitted to take between 1 and 5 courses, which are generally 0.5 Brock credits each, per semester. A 0.5 credit course at Brock University is equivalent to approximately 6 ECTS. – Students may enrol in a maximum of 2.5 Brock credits per term (equivalent to 30 ECTS).

Your advisor at Brock International will work with you to develop a list of suitable potential courses.  A comprehensive list of all graduate courses by subject is available in the Graduate Calendar. Note that not all courses in the calendar are offered in every session. Refer to the applicable term timetable for scheduling details (released in early June each year for Fall and Winter term courses, and in March for Spring term courses; registration will open shortly after). 

Please note: Registration into graduate-level courses is considered on a case-by-case basis and is therefore not guaranteed. Final approval from the Graduate Program Director for each course requested is required, so students should be prepared with back-up options if their desired courses are unavailable.  

Note that inbound study abroad students are not eligible to enrol in certain course types, including: 

  • Thesis, MRP, and dissertation courses 
  • Courses with a work component (co-op, practicum, internships, etc.) 
  • Directed study courses 
  • Non-credit courses 
  • Most PhD level courses
