The Centre offers a wheelchair-accessible program that targets exercise programs specific to individuals with spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and amputees. These programs will improve function and reduce the risk of diseases associated with inactivity. The following forms are required to be completed before beginning the program:
GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
Our wheelchair accessible exercise program aims to:
- Improve cardiovascular health and fitness, and allow individuals to be more active at home and in the community
- Improve muscle strength
- Improve function and independence. Improved strength and endurance may reduce the amount of assistance needed at home and in the community
- For those who have some walking ability already – we hope to improve walking speed and endurance
AND… our exercise facility is fun!
We hope to build confidence and quality of life, as much as muscular strength through one-on-one assistance from a trained student volunteer. All members will receive a personalized exercise program focusing on current health and functional goals.
