The CHYDS and SAMHI
SAMHI was founded in 2014 by Samantha DeLenardo and Kristin Van Slingerland.
The goal of SAMHI was to eliminate the stigma of mental illness in post-secondary sport and facilitate access to resources to improve mental health.
In August 2023 SAMHI ceased operations and the ownership was transferred to The Centre for Healthy Youth Development through Sport, a longtime collaborator.
Under the leadership of CHYDS member and Brock Professor of Kinesiology Philip Sullivan, SAMHI’s knowledge mobilization platforms share research and best practices focusing on supporting the mental health of Canadian university student-athletes.
