Important information about this bursary application form: please read carefully
Why you are being asked to complete this form? The University-wide Bursary to Reduce Barriers to Participating in WIL has been made possible by funding received from Co-operative Education and Work Integrated Learning Canada (“CEWIL”). CEWIL requires that Brock collect and provide to CEWIL the information requested below as a condition of receiving the funding.
Why is the information on this form needed? CEWIL is operating a federally sponsored program to support projects that work to align the skills of post-secondary students with the skills required by Canadian employers. It requires certain information about each participant in the placements it funds in order for CEWIL to (a) measure the results of this project and evaluate the project’s success; (b) evaluate more generally, the success of the CEWIL program in achieving its objective; and (c) meet CEWIL’s obligation of accountability to Parliament and the Canadian public for the operation of the program by reporting the results of the program and its success in achieving its objective.
How will your information be administered? If successful, the information you provide will be administered by CEWIL in accordance with the Privacy Act and the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada Act. CEWIL may also designate a third party to receive and analyze the information provided. If this is done, the information will also be administered in accordance with the Privacy Act. In both cases, you have a right under the Access to Information Act to obtain access to that information. By participating in this project, you may also be subject to a longitudinal study administered by Statistics Canada.
Will the information be kept confidential? All participant information collected by Brock will be treated as confidential and will be protected against unauthorized release or disclosure. It will not be released or disclosed to any other person or body except with consent or if required by law. Before submitting the information to CEWIL, all institutional markers (e.g. student identification numbers) will be removed.
Update for 2024 Application. The Government of Canada has introduced new rules for this program, where certain community partners are no longer eligible for funding. The list of ineligible organizations is the following:
- Post-secondary institutions are not eligible with the exception of entrepreneurial WIL only;
- Federal, Provincial, Territorial and Municipal Government;
- Members of the House of Commons and the Senate;
- Organizations that engage in partisan political activities;
- Financial sector employers with 500 or more employees (includes all branches); and
- Organizations for which you are paying for a service (i.e., software or training) are typically not considered as eligible partners in a WIL experience.
If your community partner is one of the above listed organizations, unfortunately you will not be eligible for funding through this bursary for 2024.
If you have questions regarding the bursary, please email experiential@brocku.ca and a member of the Experiential Education team will endeavour to get back to you.
