Brock Niagara Aquatics held its 26th annual awards banquet and dinner on Sunday, October 26, 2017 at Coppola’s Ristorante & Banquet Facility in St. Catharines. The swimming club’s top achievers of the past 2016–2017 season were honoured.
Outstanding Swimmer Awards
Three awards are presented yearly for the top three long course performances in an Olympic event by Brock Niagara Aquatics athletes, based on world performance charts.
Outstanding Swimmer of the Year Award: The Walker Cup
- Gökhan Bozyiğit
Brock Niagara’s top swim of the year was Gökhan Bozyiğit’s 1500 Freestyle at the 2017 Long Course Provincials Championships in Toronto in June; he won that race in a time of 16:13.83 and earned 715 FINA points. Gökhan also earned the Top Age Group award as a 15/over male. As a freshman at Brock University last year, Gökhan was an OUA Finalist and competed at the U Sports Championships. He is now in his second year competing with the Badgers team and studying in the concurrent education program.
Second Ranked Swim of the Year (1st Runner-Up): The Dr. Bob McKay Trophy
- Andie Lloyd
The second-ranked swim of the year came from 13-year-old Andie Lloyd Western at Ontario Regional Championship in June where she won gold in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:02.79 LC and earned 569 points on the FINA scale. Andie was also a finalist at the 2017 Long Course Provincial Championships and winner of this past year’s 13/14 Girls Top Age Group award. Andie recently graduated as an honour roll student from Richmond Street Public School in Thorold; she now attends Sir Winston Secondary School in St. Catharines.
Third Ranked Swim of the Year (2nd Runner-Up): The Gloria Storm Award
- Kayleigh Grover
Kayleigh’s top long course performance of the year earned her 567 FINA points in the 800 Freestyle at the Scarborough Invitational in January (9:45.43) where she was a finalist in that event. She also earned the top 15/over girls age group award. Kayleigh is an honour roll senior now in her graduating year at Sir Winston Secondary School in St. Catharines.
Top Age Group Awards
Presented to the top male and female swimmer in each of the 10/Under, 11/12, 13/14, 15/over age groups. To be eligible to win, swimmers must be in the age group for an entire season—either short course or long course—and must have swam at least one Provincial time.
11/12 Boys Award: The St. Catharines Rotary Club South Award
- Edivaldo Nascimento
Edy’s top swim of the year earned him 275 FINA points in the 50 Freestyle (32.13) at the WOSA LC Championships.
13/14 Girls Award: Port Colborne Master Plumbers Award
- Andie Lloyd
Andie’s gold-medal performance at the 2017 WOSA LC Championships in the 100 Freestyle earned her 569 FINA points and the top 13/14 girls award.
13/14 Boys Award: The V. Arthur Reece Award
- Patrick Fidler
Patrick’s top swim of the year earned him 356 FINA points in the 200 Breaststroke (2:59.15) at the 2017 WOSA LC Championships. Earlier in the season, he qualified for the Ontario Festival Championship in the 100 Breaststroke after dropping more than 11 seconds off his previous best time. Patrick is a grade 9 student at EL Crossley Secondary School this year and a recent graduate of Glynn A Green Public School in Fonthill where he was an honour roll student. Aside from swimming, Patrick is a member of his school’s cross-country team.
15/Over Girls Award: The Business and Professional Women’s Club of St. Catharines Trophy
- Kayleigh Grover
Kayleigh scored 622 FINA points in the 400 Freestyle (4:34.59) at the Team Showdown in December.
15/Over Male Award: The Acres International Award
- Gökhan Bozyiğit
Gökhan scored 719 FINA points in the 400 Freestyle (3:56.90) at the U Sport Swimming Championships to earn him top honours as a 15/over male.
Most Improved Swimmer
The award is mathematically calculated, based on percentage improvement of five most improved events over the course of the swimming year.

Awarded to the one swimmer per group who exemplifies dedication, diligence, and a daily positive attitude through the entire season.
The most improved swimmer award is given to the swimmer in each training group who has shown overall remarkable growth and improvement (in performance, training, effort, attitude) over the course of the year.
