Grassroots (Precompetitive)

OLYMPIC WAY

The Brock Niagara Aquatics ‘Olympic Way’ program is our grassroots program where we welcome young swimmers (born 2015 and younger) to learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming. The Olympic Way program is led by a team of coaches comprised of Brock University students and older Brock Niagara Aquatics swimmers who in their own way are beginning their journey into coaching.

‘Olympic Way’ swimmers swim twice per week in 8-10 week sessions throughout the school year; new sessions begin in September, January, and Spring.

The pre-requisite for joining ‘Olympic Way’ is LSS Swimmer 5 (or equivalent). The associated skills we are looking for is the ability to swim continuously for at least 25m in deep water and possess the fundamentals of front crawl (freestyle), back crawl (backstroke), and whip kick to help learn breaststroke.

‘Olympic Way’ swimmers normally spend up to one year in ‘Olympic Way’. A swimmer’s readiness to move on to the next level depends upon age, experience, and desire to do more. After completing one or more sessions of ‘Olympic Way’, graduates of this program may move into a full-year competitive training group (see below).

When it is time for your swimmer to move on to the competitive program our office will be in touch with your family or you may inquire about our new Introduction to Competitive Swimming (ICS) program. If you have any questions about your swimmer’s readiness to move on to the competitive program we encourage you to message our office [email protected]

OLYMPIC WAY LATE START

Our ‘Olympic Way – Late Start’ program is for swimmers born 2011-2014 to receive a similar program to the ‘Olympic Way’ while understanding the designation as later starters to the competitive swim program. The age of the participants becomes important when transitioning from the pre-competitive program to the competitive stream because our competitive programs are all organized by year of birth.

‘Olympic Way – Late Start’ graduates would not be eligible to move into our ‘Bronze’ competitive program due to age and instead would move to either our new Introduction To Competitive Swimming (ICS) or age appropriate competitive group.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPETIITVE SWIMMING (ICS)

In 2025-26 Brock Niagara Aquatics is pleased to introduce our new ‘Introduction to Competitive Swimming (ICS)’ program. ICS is a 8-10 week final pre-competitive program for swimmers preparing to advance to a competitive group. New sessions begin in September, January, and Spring.

ICS swimmers will move from the twice a week ‘Olympic Way’ schedule to a three times per week ‘ICS’ schedule to help bridge the gap to their age-appropriate competitive group.

The primary objective of ‘ICS’ will be to build on the fundamentals of ‘Olympic Way’ teaching greater details to a more advanced group of young participants eager to participate in swim meets but may still require a little more tutelage of competitive swimming fundamentals.

Schedule:

All three programs are offered in three different sessions Fall (September 22nd-December 4th), Winter (January 6th- March 12th) and Spring (March 23-May 28th).

In each session swimmers will be able to sign up for one of the options below for the Olympic way programs:

• Monday/Wednesday 5:45–7:00 PM

• Monday/Wednesday 7:00-8:15 PM

• Tuesday/Thursday 4:15–5:30 PM
