Championship level competitions usually require competitors to reach qualifying time standards. There are Regional, Provincial, and National jurisdictions, with respective qualifying times set by Western Ontario Region (WOSA), Swim Ontario, and Swimming Canada. In international competitions such as the Olympic Games, competitors are normally selected to participate as part of a nation-wide team.
