Student wellness supports available during exams

Snacks, activities and a free ride home program during late night study hours are just a few of the supports available to Brock students during exams.

Kicking off more than three weeks of extended services, the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) is providing students with free rides home during the Brock Library’s Late Night Study hours, which run until Monday, April 22.

The BUSU program operates Sunday to Thursday each week from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Students can book a ride on the Zoom Zoom app using the code “BADGERS” for a free ride from Brock to their home address within the Niagara Region. Pick up will take place outside of the Rankin Family Pavilion. Information on how to download the app and book a ride can be found on the BUSU website.

BUSU will also host free food events in Union Station during exams to keep students fueled up for success, including a full hot breakfast on Thursday, April 4 at 7:30 a.m. and a Late-Night Poutine Bar on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. Both events will remain open until supplies run out.

Students can take a break from studying and final assignments by visiting the Library’s Unstudy spot in the Learning Commons to unwind with colouring sheets, crossword puzzles, origami and sudoku from Tuesday, April 9 to Wednesday, April 23.

A drop-in Seated Stretches session will take place on Monday, April 15 in Learning Commons Classroom B at 11 a.m. and a Sip and Scent coffee and aromatherapy pop-up will take place on Wednesday, April 17 in the Learning Commons from 10 to 11 a.m.

For those who want to enjoy the warmer weather, the library has added flying discs as well as a collection of games and stressbusters for loan at the Ask Us desk.

Visit ExperienceBU and the BUSU website for more information on student wellness and academic support events including study groups, workshops, drop-in sessions, craft making and more.

The Brock community is encouraged to visit Reach Out, an online resource designed to help individuals recognize signs that someone might need support and discover the services available.

Students in distress or who would like to book a personal counselling appointment can call 1-833-276-2533 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In-person appointments for urgent mental health matters are available Monday to Friday in Schmon Tower 402 by booking online. Students can also call Student Health Services at 905 688-5550 ext. 3242 to book an appointment for physical or mental health services.

Brock’s Student Health and Wellness HUB drop in will be open Monday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m. for peer-to-peer support.
