What’s open and closed for Labour Day weekend

As Brock University continues to operate in Brock 3 (Protect and Prevent) of its reopening framework, some units will experience additional closures and varying hours for the Labour Day holiday long weekend from Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6.

Residence Move-In will take place throughout the weekend. If driving onto campus, please be prepared for delays as there may be lines of slow moving vehicles on roads leading to residence buildings. Parking lots beside residence buildings are being used for unloading only and will be unavailable for parking.

Campus Security
Officers are available 24-7 by phoning 905-688-5550 x3200, via emergency phones on campus, by emailing security@brocku.ca or through the Brock Mobile App.    

Access to campus
Screening access to enter any indoor section of Brock’s main campus can be completed at the main entrance to the Rankin Family Pavilion from Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Administrative offices
Brock University’s administrative offices will be closed from Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6, and will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Brock Central @ the Registrar’s Office

Brock Central will be closed for the Labour Day weekend. It will re-open for in-person services on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. With the exception of this first day, service hours for September are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to visiting the Brock Central offices on the third floor of the Schmon Tower, students can phone 905-688-5550 x3052 or email central@brocku.ca. Emails must be sent from a Brock email address for the Brock Central team to respond to inquiries regarding academic or financial status. Frequently asked questions are available online. 

Brock U 4U booths

The Brock U 4U (BU4U) information booths will be closed Saturday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 5. They will be open from Monday, Sept. 6 to Friday, Sept. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

BU4U booths are located outside the Campus Store, outside the Walker Sports Complex and near the flag poles in front of Schmon Tower and Rankin Family Pavilion.

Brock Card

The Brock Card Office, which is located near Sean O’Sullivan Theatre in Thistle Complex (TH 221A), will be open over the Labour Day weekend and into the first week of Fall Term. Hours are as follows:

  • Saturday, Sept. 4 — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (only open to residence students)
  • Sunday, Sept. 5 — 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (only open to residence students)
  • Monday, Sept. 6 — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 7 and Wednesday, Sept. 8 — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 9 and Friday, Sept. 10 — 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Before visiting the Brock Card Office, students, faculty and staff are asked to review the new procedure for requesting a Brock Card.

 Brock Library

The Library will be closed from Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6.

Fall Term hours begin Tuesday, Sept. 7. With the exception of the James A. Gibson Library, Learning Commons and ASK US Desk having modified hours on Tuesday, Sept. 7 for Orientation Day (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), the Fall Term schedule is as follows:

Brock-Niagara Centre for Health and Well-Being

The Brock-Niagara Centre for Health and Well-Being, which includes Power Cord, SeniorFit and Heart Strong programs, will be closed Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6.

Excluding Labour Day and other holidays, the Centre is open for in-person activity by appointment only Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) offices

BUSU administrative offices will be closed for the Labour Day weekend. They will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. BUSU’s health and dental office will open Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for virtual appointments. Universal Bus Pass stickers can be collected at an outdoor booth located in between the BUSU offices and the Goodman School of Business from Tuesday, Sept. 7 to Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit brockbusu.ca for more information. 

Campus Store

The Campus Store is open for in-store shopping over the long weekend with extended hours for the first two weeks of classes to support the Brock community of students, faculty and staff.

Upcoming hours are as follows:

  • Saturday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 5 — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 6 — Noon to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 7 to Thursday, Sept. 9 — 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 10 — 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In-store shopping will have limited capacity that allows two metres of physical distancing. The online store continues to be open to everyone 24-7, with free shipping on most domestic online orders more than $50. Textbooks are available for purchase online only with in-store pickup or one- to three-day courier shipping options. 

Computer labs and ITS Help Desks

The ITS Help Desks in the Campus Store and the Computer Commons will be open over the Labour Day weekend. The computers in the Computer Commons are available for student use while the ITS Help Desk is open.

Select dining locations will be open Labour Day weekend and into the first week of Fall Term. DeCew and Lowenberger Residence Dining Halls as well as Starbucks will be open Saturday to Monday, while Tim Hortons in the Schmon Tower will be open Sunday and Monday. The GSA office will be closed for Labour Day weekend. It will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 7 by appointment only. Hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour closure at noon. Appointments can be made through the GSA website or by emailing gsaoffice@brocku.ca

Parking Services

Parking Services will be closed from Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6. The ‘Questions Desk’, located on the fourth floor of Plaza Building, will be open from Tuesday, Sept. 7 to Friday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Phone and email inquiries will be answered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parking options include hourly, daily rate, weekly, monthly, four-month or eight-month permits. The Lot D Visitor Parking Kiosk will be closed in September. For contactless parking options, the HONK mobile app continues to offer daily, weekly and monthly permits. Pay machines accepting credit and debit are available in daily and hourly lots. Recreation and Athletic Facilities

The Walker Sports Complex Zone Fitness Centre will be available this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. Brock students can reserve a workout time through the online booking system. Drop in recreation is not available at this time; pre-registration is necessary to use the activity space. Capacity limits and other restrictions are in place. Schedules with bookable timeslots are posted every Friday at noon for the upcoming week. Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7, Brock students can book online reservations for the Zone Fitness Centre, the pool, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor basketball, indoor badminton and outdoor field times.

Research
On-campus research facilities will be closed Saturday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 6, except in extenuating circumstances and with prior authorization through the Associate Dean, Research. 

Residences

Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre

Brock’s Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre, including Personal Counselling Services, Student Health Services and Student Accessibility Services, will be closed from Saturday, Sept. 4 to Monday, Sept. 6.

Students can receive urgent/crisis 24-7 telephone counselling by calling 1-833-276-2533 (1-833-BROCK33) or students who are outside of North America can call 001 416 382 3257 for 24-7 telephone support every day of the year.

Students in need of mental health supports can also access counselling and resources no matter the time of day through the My SSP mobile app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

U-Pass sticker booth

Students can collect their Universal Bus Pass sticker from Tuesday, Sept. 7 to Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at an outdoor booth located between the BUSU offices in the Student-Alumni Centre and the Goodman School of Business. Read more.
